Hello CARMACK friends and relatives! I though you all might like to see
that even some of us were enslaved back 'then': I found these two in some
book of old documents over at the Texas Archives.
These came from a Pennsylvania and I think a New Jersey book...I'm sorry I
didn't record the actual source..but it was a long time ago and I failed to
do so:
FIVE POUNDS REWARD
MADE his escape from the subscribers, on the 18th of
December, 1773, a certain DAVID CARMACK, a young
looking man, with black hair; had on a lightish coloured
wrap-rascal, and had a change of other cloaths. Who-
ever takes him up and brings him to us, or secures him in
any of his Majesty's gaols, so that we may get him again,
shall have the above reward, and all reasonable charges,
paid by,
ALEXANDER MONTGOMERY and
MOSES CLAYTON, Constables.
Cape-May County, Oct. 26, 1773.
Next one was :
RUN away, on the 7th instant, from Robert Pearson,
of Hight's twon, East New-Jersey, an Irish servant man,
named ROBERT CARMACK, about 25 years of age, 5 feet
10 inches high, a pale down looking man; had on, when
he went away, an old felt hat, red duffield great coat, check
flannel shirt, ozenbrigs trousers, and old shoes; took with
him a homespun tow shirt. It is supposed he will en-
deavour to get on board some vessel in this port. Who-
ever takes up and secures said servant, so that his master
may have him again, shall have FORTY SHILLINGS reward,
and reasonable charges, paid by me
ROBERT PEARSON, or
WILLIAM FISHBURN, Merchant in Phila.
---The Pennsylvania Gazette, No. 2065, July 21, 1768
