Hi cousins,
I am reading, Pat! That was a great reunion we had, wasn't it? Before I
met Pat and Tony, I didn't know that I had any cousins other than first cousins.
I was supposed to go and stay near Mill Springs Battlefield this last year
in Nancy, KY and was looking forward to some research but my husband had open
heart surgery in June. Hopefully, this will take place for me in 2006.
It's nice to see people posting again.
In the early days of Internet genealogy, there was great excitement at being
able to put together whole family trees and connecting with relatives we
didn't know we had. I have felt blocked in the past several years, having come
to some dead ends in my line so I haven't been as active in research. It's
also been difficult for me with so few pieces of information in my immediate
family. I have told Pat O'Neal before that I have often felt like an orphan
with no roots (but now I have Tony!! ). Meeting other Carmacks has changed a
lot of that for me but I live on the other side of the US from most of my
cousins.
Of course, I should mention Dale here, too, because without him, we wouldn't
have this great list and website to connect. Dale is a great guy and a
wonderful cousin.
Okay, done gushing. Love you all.

Hi Patrick,
It seems there are several cousins on this list who are descendants of Levi
Carmack (1791). At one time, the list was busy with inquiries and responses.
I don't have a lot of information about the Carmacks, but am willing to
share what I do have. I have not see the Carmack book. When, and who published
the book?
My Carmack line came from southwest VA, TN, and KY. From these states, they
are scattered to the winds.
FYI, and others who may be interested: In April 1999, we had a Carmack
Cousins reunion at Boone Tavern in Berea, KY. These cousins were descendants of
Levi and Elizabeth Carmack. There were about 60 in attendance and they came
from eight states. (Ky/TN/CA/MD/IN/SC/GA/OH) I brought a large chart showing
a family tree. Each of 13 limbs represented a child of Levi Carmack.
Attached to the limbs were red apples with names of cousins in attendance,
showing the numbers representing each of those 13 children.
If it had not been for internet access, I would never have known I had so
many Carmack cousins. I met Dale Carmack there, and Tony/his sister/Agnes
Jones/Gail Carmack-one of your best researchers, and many others. I got to meet
one of my favorite cousins at Berea, Lisa Gatz (CA). (Lisa, I hope you are
reading this.) It is wonderful to be able to associate a face with the
correspondence submitted on the Carmack list. I'll start the holiday season by
saying "Thanks folks!" I have acquired a great deal of information on my
ancestors through this list.
