Archives Project, I will occasionally post randomly chosen excerpts from
the books that have been transcribed for the Archives by volunteers. I
can offer no further information on these entries and would appreciate

The following is from the book, "Overton County, TN, County Court
Minutes, February 1844 - November 1849." This book is $50.00 (made

"Upon motion and it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that
Elizabeth GORE a citizen of Overton County and State of Tennessee has
died in the County and State aforesaid leaving no will and it further
appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that those entitled by law to
the preference to the administration have failed or totally refused to
take upon themselves the administration of the same, it is therefore
ordered by the Court that Henry GORE be appointed administrator of all
and singular the goods and chattels rights and credits of the said
Elizabeth GORE deceased and that letters of administration be issued to
him, whereupon the said Henry GORE came into court with Stephen WEST his
security who executed and acknowledged bond in the penal sum of seventy
five dollars and was qualified as such.
State of Tennessee
Overton County To Henry GORE a citizen of Overton County, it
appearing to the satisfaction of the Court now in session that Elizabeth
GORE has died in the County and State aforesaid intestate and the Court
being satisfied as to your claim to the administration and you having
given bond and qualified as directed by law and the Court having ordered
that letters of administration be issued to you, These are therefore to
authorize and empower you to take into your possession and controll all
the goods and chattels claims and papers of the said deceased, to return
a true and perfect Inventory thereof to our next County Court, to
collect and pay all debts and to do and transact all the duties which
lawfully devolve on you as administrator and after having settled up
said estate to deliver the residue thereof to those who are by law
entitled. Witness William H. TURNER Clerk of said Court at Office this
6th day of December 1847."

"Satisfactory evidence has been exhibited to the Court that Elizabeth
GORE was a pensioner of the United States at the rate of seventy five
dollars per annum and was a resident of the County of Overton and State
of Tennessee and died in the County of Overton and State of Tennessee in
the year 1847 on the 4th day of September and that she left the
following children and only heirs (viz.) Isaac GORE, Margaret FETZER,
Nancy CARMACK, Henry GORE, Sarah GORE, Engabo CARMACK, John GORE & Polly
RAY."
