George Frederick Carmack
George Frederick Carmack, of Crocker, was born on June 2, 1910, at
Crocker, a son of Cecil C. and Mary Louise Golding Carmack, and departed
this life at 2:26 a.m., Friday morning, Jan. 9 2004, in the Phelps
County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Mr. Carmack had been in failing
health for the past two years and had attained the age of 93 years.
Mr. Carmack was united in marriage on August 4, 1936 in East St. Louis,
Ill. to the former Miss Berniece Creech, and to this union three
daughters were born. He was preceded in death by his wife on July 124,
1991, his father in 1956; his mother in 1965; one brother, Roy Carmack,
three sisters, Laura Ann Carmack, Gertrude Burgess and Esther Henson;
and one great-great-granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Wray.
Mr. Carmack was a member of the Crocker Christian Church, being baptized
early in life, he was also a 60-year member of the Modern Woodsman. He
had worked as a mechanic and plumber, as well as at a gravel plant and
also farmed. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Carmack include three daughters
and two sons-in-law, Sella and James Bales, Dixon, Wanda Joyce and John
Engels, North Bend, Oregon, and Beverly Carmack, Crocker; one sister,
Blanche Kastner, Council Bluffs, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Cyndi Wray,
Steven Bales, Teddy Bales and wife Joyce, all of Dixon; Christopher
Bales, Rolla; Debbie Engels, Gresham, Oregon; Karen Koch and husband,
Monte, Napa, Calif.; and John P. Engels, Ft., Hood, Tex.; eight
great-grandchildren, Jerry Wray, Jodi Wray, Jennifer Wray and Tylor
Bales all of Dixon, Keaton Bales, Rolla, Mitchell Koch, Mason Koch, and
Madeline Koch all of Napa, Calif, and a host of other relatives and
friends.
Fond and precious memories of Mr. Carmack will long be remembered in the
hearts of his dear family and all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Carmack at 10 a.m., Monday
morning, Jan. 12 in the Long Funeral Home, Crocker with Bro. Rick Smith
officiating. Mrs. Edna June Adamson and Mrs. Betty Brown sang "How Great
Thou Art", "Amazing Grace", and "The Old Rugged Cross" for the
funeral
service and were accompanied by Mrs. Betty Doyle, who also played the
prelude and postlude.
Interment was in the Crocker Cemetery under the direction of the Long
Funeral Home, Crocker. Active pallbearers for Mr. Carmack were Don
Brown, Doyle Brown, Junior Bryan, Junior Adamson, Donnie York and
Clinton Moore with Virgil Carmack, Lewis Miller, Dave Shafer and Don
York serving as honorary pallbearers.
