I finally was able to find time to update the DNA Website with the latest
test and analysis information. This was partly complicated by an update in
my computer which took me a while to recall "how" to connect and update the
webpage.
For anyone not familiar, here is the website:
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~carmack/index.html
There are several links for the DNA Project, Information, News, & Results.
I added some new reports on the Results page. I think they may help some
people understand the comparison data. It also becomes apparent that the
more markers tested reduces the time to the most common ancestor.
There is interesting report that provides a link to the Sorenson Molecular
Genealogy Foundation (SMGF) Database. The title of the report os SMGF
Database Configuration - DNA Results Comparison. When I click on my data it
takes me to the SMGF Database and shows me that I have a 25 of 25 match with
someone. It shows me their pedigree chart. The most interesting thing is
that the match is NOT Carmack. The other "interesting" thing is that it
traces back to a William Jones born 1779 in Washington Co PA. What does
this mean? I don't have a clue, but it may be of interest to see if that
person lived near any Carmack's...who knows what could be found. There are
similar matches for Samuel Carmack that are not Carmack surnames.
For any new members that have not heard any of this before, here is a quick
summary of our test results:
We clearly have 2 groups of unrelated Carmacks. One group can trace back to
Cornelius Carmack, born 1681. The other group does not have a known common
ancestor, but the DNA analysis shows they are related and share a common
ancestor. For example, there is a 50% probability that the descendants of
Furney Carmack and Samuel B. Carmack share a common ancestor in the past 125
years. There are additional charts for a 75% and 90% probability.
What can we do to help? DNA analysis can help all of us Carmack researchers
bridge the gap where a paper trail does not exist. What we need are more
male Carmack participants in the project. It would be extremely helpful for
anyone who CANNOT trace back to Cornelius to join the project. It may only
be in this way that we prove the most basic relationships. DNA analysis
will prove whether there is a relationship. It will not identify the common
ancestor (this is not a paternity test).
I urge anyone interested to contact me or follow the instructions on my web
site to participate.
