Jim,
Is it possible that even before you were a Cormack, you may have been
a
McCormack??? Just a thought! ............Pat
Hello Pat,
In answer to your question: The data on my line ends with William
Cormack
of Wake Co. NC. He was born abt. 1749 in NC and died after 1810. In land
grant documents and other official documents he was identified as William
McCormack off and on for over 30 years. In reference to your question, does
that have some significance?
It seems that what happens is that when a spelling variation occurs in those
early documents, the family researchers often fail to mention it and use
the "correct" spelling in their notes and discussions as if that is the name
in the originals. Then when one goes back to those original sources, or the
digests, the soundex etc. the information is not found. At least that is
what happened to me. I thougtht that it was worth mentioning. Jim
