According to the Carmack Cousins Newsletter, Vol. II, No. 1, September
1, 1985:
Martin V. Carmack was born March 8, 1841 to Samuel Carmack (1809-1860) &
Alsey (1814-1899). They were enumerated in the 1850 & 1860 census of
Overton Co, TN. Samuel was the son of James Carmack (1784-1842) & Nancy
McMillen (1787-1856). This Martin would have been of an age to fight in
the Civil War.

One was Martin, b. > 5/29/1834, died 8/1/1908.
Is this the Martin Carmack you are questioning?
------
Pat: That was my original thought. However, the listing of
casualties during the battle of Mill Springs (19 Jan 1862)
also gives those who died in the area before the battle.
Martin V. Carmack, Co. B, 25th Tenn. Inf., died 1 Jan 1862.
As you have noted, our Martin Carmack lived until 1908.
I have not come across the name of Martin V. (VanBuren??)
in any Carmack family group. -- Gail
