Subject: DANIEL KAYLOR WILL----WASHINGTON COUNTY, VIRGINIA
Hello,
Here is what I have on the Daniel KAYLOR/KAHLOR of
Washington County, VA:
There is a copy of Daniel Kaylor's handwritten will
which can be found on microfish within the Virginia
State Library in Richmond Virginia. Daniel is the
husband of Elizabeth Weeks.
His will reads as follows:

Virginia do make this my last will and testament. I
give to my daughter POLLY KAYLOR my household and
kitchen furniture and a cow and a support off the
place(?) on which I now live so long as she remains
single and on the said place(?) or in the family of
ABRAHAM KAYLOR, she doing what she can to maintain
herself. I give to my daughters RACHEL GREEM, LYDIA
CARMACK, CATHERINE FLEENOR, SUSAN WILLOUGHBY, JEMIMA
MISNICK(?) and MALINDA SHOEMAKER one dollar each. I

during our natural lives. Lastly I appaoint my son ABRAHAM KAYLOR Executor
of this last will and Testament hereby
____ing(?) all former wills made by me."
Daniel Kaylor signed his name with an " X ".
According to the Washington County Tax and Property
Records, Daniel Kaylor owned 46 acres in RICH VALLEY
on the NORTH FORK of the HOLSTON RIVER on a steep spur
of WALKER MOUNTAIN. He apparently paid $200 for this
property. He paid his taxes on those 46 acres every
year until March 15, 1803 when he purchased another
200 acres touching Walker Maountain for $150 from Adam
Miller and wife. He then paid taxes on 46 and 200
acres listed separately in the tax books. (ref:Gary
Kaylor)
Daniel and his wife Elizabeth Weeks Kaylor were some
of the original pioneers of Washington County,
Virginia. The Cherokee Indians were still living in
the mountains just south of them and the Shawnee
Indians were still fighting in the Ohio and Kentucky
areas. They were very hearty, heathy folks living on
the fringe of the frontier. Elizabeth Kaylor, in the
absense of doctors and medicine, gave birth to 12
known children and lived to be 96 years of age.
According to the death records in the State Library,
she died of old age on October 15, 1859. Daniel and
Elizabeth appear in the 1850 Census and his age is
given as 91 years. He died sometime before 1860.
Daniel had a sister named Elizabeth and a brother
named John Kaylor also living in the same area. John
purchased and sold quite a bit of land along Smyth's
Creek where it runs into the North Fork of the Holston
River. I also have a listing of his children and a
copy of his will. (ref: Gary Kaylor---I do NOT have
the copy of this will--jf)
The children of Daniel and Elizabeth Kaylor were as
follows:
(1)Mary (Polly) Kaylor was born around 1795 - 1797.
She was living with her parents in the 1850 Census and
her age was given to the Census taker as 53 years. She
was living with her brother Abraham Kaylor in the 1870
Census and her age is given as 75 years.
(2)Susan Kaylor was born around 1793 and died of Flux
on August 18, 1858 at the age of 65 years. She was the
wife of Wallace Willoughby.
(3) Ruth Elizabeth Kaylor was married to Solomon
Fleenor by James Folley in Washington County on
November 2, 1815.
Solomon died on June 15, 1858 from Flux at the age of
74 years, 5 months.
(4) Lydia Kaylor married Evan Carmack on May 16, 1819. Incidently, there is
a book within the Virginia State Library that documents many early weddings
and deaths within Washington County, Virginia. Practically all of the
wedding dates of these early Kaylors are mentioned in that book.
(5) Catherine Kaylor was born in January 1809 and
married Peter Fleenor on February 15, 1832. Catherine
died from fever on July 25, 1857 at the age of 48
years. Her parents were the ones who reported her
death to the County official.
Peter died from dropsy on April 24, 1859.
(6) Jemima Kaylor was born around 1811 because her age
was given as 35 years on the marriage records. She
married a seven year older Benjamin Minnick, a farmer
from Tennessee, on March 3, 1846. They and their
children appear in the 1850 Census for Washington
County.
(7) Nothing is known about Rachael except she married
a Green according to her father's will.
(8) Malinda Kaylor married Alexander Snodgrass on
December 6, 1832 and Jacob Shoemaker on Febraury 14,
1840.
(9) Elizabeth Kaylor married a Lewis.
(10) John Kaylor, my great, great, great grandfather,
was born in 1788 and married Jemima Barker on March 4,
1815. John died before 1840 when Jemima Kaylor appears
as the head of household in the 1840 Washington County
Census. Living with her were 3 sons and a daughter.
Another son, Hiram, appeared as a separate head of
household.
(11) Jacob Kaylor appears as a 16 - 26 year old head
of household in the 1820 Census and was not in the
1840 Virginia Census. He is listed as deceased in his
father's will.
(12) Abraham Kaylor was the youngest and was born
around 1815. Abraham was the overseer of his parents
246 acre farm while caring for his aged parents. The
farm was valued at $1,200 in the 1850 Census. Abraham
and wife Sarah and children appear in the 1850 and
1870 Censues."
The forgoing information is from Gary Kaylor,
descendant of John Kaylor. Hope this helps.
