Ruth:
From all the census info and other information that I have gathered, I do
believe that John William Carmack who married Susan A. Baker was the son of
John Carmack who married Nancy Ann Edwards, and John Carmack was the son of
William Carmack and Pency Kent. Cannot go any further back, although I have
found a great deal of Carmack info in Craven County, NC. that I feel is
related to this family.
I wish I could see the Carmack Bible that Peggy has, as I have had a good
deal of experience at reading my grandfather's handwriting and feel that I
might be able to ascertain the ones she cannot read. Yes, I have been in
touch with Lois, and feel that there is a connection there. But as to the
one that froze to death, she is the only one that has ever brought that up,
and has never been able to provide any info on the information.
I believe that John William Carmack may possibly have married again to a T.
Scoggins in Green County, Arkansas, around 1900, after Susie Baker died. Do
not know if Susie died when Papa was born in 1887, or maybe in an epidemic,
or something like that between 1887 and 1892.
The lady that heads the Green County web page for GenWeb sent me an article
one time from an oldnewspaper about the wife of a John Carmack dying and
leaving several children. Most of their children would have been grown or
almost grown when papa was born.
I have heard through Janette that there was at least one half-brother,
possibly through the Scoggins lady. I am in touch with severalScoggins, but
so far have not been able to locate any information.
Hope this helps in some way.
