Since we have been analyzing the DNA results we have found that several
Carmack's do not match with the Cornelius line (Frederick & Soloman B
Carmack). Judy French contacted me and we discussed several references she
has found that have been found showing that there were Carmack's in America
before Cornelius and Christopher.
Sep 1, 1643 John Freeme, Charles Co, VA brought over Danielle Cormack
1654 Col John Matron, West Moreland Co, VA brought over Dan Carmake
16 June 1661, Thomas Ludwell, Henrico Co, VA mentioned in a deed that
Cormacke bordered his land
She also found reference to a Nelve, Carmack from Early Virginia Immigrants;
1623-1666 (not sure if Carmack is first or last name). I did a search of
old Carmack emails and found where I had posted this same reference:
Nelve, Carmack, 1655, by Maltilda Scarbourgh, Northampton Co.
It was my determination by comparison to other entries that the way this was
presented in the document, Nelve would be the Last Name. Regardless, the
use of the name Carmack as a fist name might be of use in research and could
prove a connection to the Carmack line.
Additional search of the old Carmack archives on GenForum I found the
following:
In notes found at the death of my father-in-law on Carmack: Nettie Carmack
Davis, Thomaston, GA dated 1934 "Three Carmack brothers came from Scotland
and became shipbuilders in or around Baltimore Md. One went to VA, the
other two south"
I never heard from the person who posted this.
Has anyone done any research on any of these Carmack's or have any related
information to add?
