Many of you are aware of Dr Charles Peckham's book "The Carmack Family
Genealogy", published in 1998. Dr Peckham is planning a revision to this
book and has asked me to send an email to the Carmack List to let everyone
know. I know that he is entering his information into Family Tree Maker
this time and will document sources better. Last time he used a Word
Processor which made documenting and tracking sources difficult. At a
minimum he will document who provided the data. He plans to print another
hard cover book and put at least 200 in Local, State and National libraries.
He also will create an electronic version on CD. It's also important to
point out that he is not doing this to make any money, just to cover
expenses.
I know there was a lot of discussion when the book came out regarding
errors. Now is the chance to provide corrections and updates. He is asking
that anyone interested in helping to send him information on a CD, in a
GEDCOM or Family Tree Maker file. Please ensure the sources are contained.
If you can't send on a CD then he will accept it in any format available.
Anything in a hardcopy takes longer to enter and is more prone to error. He
wants to gather information until the end of the year.
I have asked that he contain a section regarding the DNA Project. I would
not complicate it by including the test data but I am considering a writing
a small description of the project and the current findings.
There was some discussion previously that Dr Peckham did not provide credit
to those who submitted data to him before. I don't think this is true,
though people may have expected sourcing to be done differently. I was
going to paste the 4 pages into this email but without formatting it is
unreadable. The List can only receive plain text. If anyone wants I can
email the section separately.
Please email me separately and I'll provide his email and address.
