We do have a few Thomas Riddles in our group.
Thomas Riddle b. abt 1802 Bledsoe Co, TN d. Pulaski Co, MO living next to
John Riddle and William Ingram in 1830 Bledsoe Co, TN. Thomas married Sarah
Carmack (m. Sarah Cormack b. 1809 Bledsoe Co, TN m. 1830 Bledsoe Co, TN).
Their children were 1) John Riddle b. 1829 Bledsoe Co, TN, 2) Jesse Riddle
b. 1831 Bledsoe Co, TN, and 3) Caroline Riddle.
Thomas' mom and dad were John and Sarah (Johnson) Riddle. John's mom and
dad were William and Happy (Rogers/Roberts) Riddle (she is said to have been
very tall and possibly a full blood Cherokee). William's dad is thought to
be Moses and Mary Riddle, Saponi indians who were living just east of
Hillsboro, NC as indians in the 1750s. Again, look at
www.saponitown.com/forum.
There was also another Thomas Riddle (the uncle of the man listed above),
son of William and Happy Riddle, married Mary Igou in Bledsoe County, TN.
Moses Riddle probably didn't have any kids as late as 1809, but Thomas could
easily be a grandson of Moses. After leaving VA, the Riddle's lived near
Kyle's Ford, TN (near the TN-VA border in Hancock/Hawkins County (Melungeon
territory). Sometime between 1800 and 1830 the moved to Bledsoe County, TN.
From there, around 1830, they moved to Pulaski County, MO. One of
them,
Johnson "Rake" Riddle, moved back east to the Warrior Mountain area
of AL
(Winston/Lawrence County, AL), which is Cherokee country. The cousins that
remain there claim to be Cherokee, as my Riddle's always did. That being
said, there seems to be a connection to the Saponi as well. Look up
"RIDDLE" at
www.saponitown.com/forum.
