Thanks for responding Beth. I hope I have not left the wrong impression,
DNA testing is meant to enhance our research, not replace it. For example,
in my line, Jesse Ann Carmack's father is unknown, there is no record found
anywhere that shows his father. There is a fair amount of circumstantial
evidence to indicate that his father is John Carmack (of Bledsoe TN). Other
research indicates him as the son of Jesse Carmack and Ann Black. Other
research shows this cannot be true. Nothing can be proven in either case.
However, DNA testing shows that my Y-DNA matches with those from Cornelius.
Thus, even though I do not know who Jesse's father is, I do know which
ancestor I belong to.
I certainly do not discount your lineage or research (not sure why you might
think so). It is widely know that Cornelius Carmack, born June 18, 1736 is
the son of William Carmack born 1716, who is the son of Cornelius Carmack
born 1681. It sounds like you have done your research and obtained proof
from the primary sources, good job.
If you have proven back to Cornelius Carmack born 1681, we may someday find
his ancestors thorough DNA (or through traditional research). His ancestors
have been elusive.
I have found several court records from 1661 in Maryland of a Cornelius
Micormack (that's how it was spelled) who was indentured. My gut feeling is
that this may be an ancestor of our Cornelius from 1681. I only have
similarity of names and vicinity of St Mary's County Maryland to Kent County
Maryland (a migration path in the later 1600's) to indicate this. But thus
far I have found nothing else.

Dale, I've been able to establish my lineage back to Cornelius Carmack, Sr,
born June 18, 1736 and have papers pending for DAR on him. One of my
cousins did quite a bit of genealogy years ago and extablished our lineage
back to William Carmack, Cornelius Sr.'s father. Have already established
lineage for Cornelius Carmack, Jr. for DAR. He was born in 1759. From
Corneilus, my line is Isaac, Samuel, George W. and my mother Ruth Carmack
Kemp. Since only male Carmacks can participate in the DNA project, we do
not have confirmation by blood, but have marriage license, Rev. War service
records, census records, etc that have estabilished this lineage. I have no
proof back further than Cornelius Sr. and since you are into DNA, you may
not accept what I have as "proof", but it meets my requirements.

Subject: [CARMACK] What line are your Carmack's
Several years ago I asked the list for what was called a "roll call" which
identified each persons' Carmack lineage. I'd like to ask a similar
question again. I don't want to know each person's lineage this time but I
would like to know who each of our earliest documented Carmack ancestors
are. If you can connect to Cornelius Carmack (born 1681) let him remain the
earliest ancestor. Do not list Christopher as Cornelius' father (unless we
have some documented source to show it).
Here is mine, I'm doing mine a little different.
Earliest documented ancestor - Jesse Ann Carmack, born 1797 (there is no
documented proof of Jesse's father).
The Carmack DNA Project confirmed that Jesse Ann Carmack descends from the
Cornelius Carmack line even though I cannot identify his actual father!
Hope you all participate........
Thanks,
dale
