I thought I should make some time to update the group on the recent Carmack
DNA Project news. We now have 14 participants in the project! I have
analyzed the results and formed 5 Groups. The groups are unrelated to each
other, meaning they do not share a common ancestor.
Group 1 participants descend from Cornelius Carmack, born 1681.
Group 2 participants descend from the Levi M. Carmack line (son of Levi &
Elizabeth Peters), thus a descendant of Cornelius Carmack, born 1681.
However, their Y-DNA does not match that of Cornelius Carmack. It's
interesting to note that their Y-DNA is a close match to the Group 3
participants but not close enough to indicate they are related. I don't
have a good explanation for this. More research is needed. It would be
helpful to test more descendants from the Levi & Elizabeth Peters line. We
have one participant from Levi & Elizabeth Peters' son Jacob (married to
Lydia Burns) but their Y-DNA matches Cornelius.
Group 3 participants do not have an identified common ancestor though they
are all related to each other. They can trace into NC.
Group 4 traces back to Arthur Carmack, born 1720 in NJ. Arthur is the son
of William Carmack (born about 1695 in Cecil County MD). This is another
indicator that Cornelius Carmack is not related to some of the other
Carmack's found in Cecil County MD during the same timeframe.
Group 5 is our 1st participant with a different spelling (McCormack). His
research traces to Edward McCormack, born 1880 in TN.
I have posted the updated information on my website:

We still need more participants, so please talk to those male Carmack's
about helping the project, especially in the Levi Carmack line. Also, we
have finally started a new group of the NJ branch. Are their others from
the NJ line(s) who can help?
If interesting in joining please send me an email for more information.
