This shows the Carmack-McLain family that ultimately went from Maryland to
PA to Ohio, Illinois and finally Iowa where my husband's family now lives.
We moved to Maryland when my husband was assigned here in the military and
have since discovered that both our ancestors lived about 30 miles north of
where we now live-quite a small world. My family is the Woods family-also
from the Maryland area and I have another ancestor named Kroeger. When I
saw the names Carmack, Wood and Creager (which could be Kroeger) I was quite
astounded.
Below is the Family Tree maker list I have compiled for 4 generations.
Do you have any information on where Cornelius born in Scotland and died in
frederick, MD, married to Gruin corem is this Wiliam's father.
Thanks for all the information.
Peggy McLain

Subject: RE: Those William Carmacks--(1766-1849) and (1761-1851)
First, I should have egg on my face for not writing and thanking
you,
Betty, for sending me the information on the two William Carmacks. I just
got busy, laid the material aside, and plain Forgot! Old age does that to
a
person! (;>}
Today, I decided to go through some of my Carmack email stored in my
Filing Cabinet. I was amazed at the material I had from the two of you
regarding the "two William Carmacks--cousins". I started inquiring about
the
two men nearly three-four years ago, hoping someone could clarify the
family
descendencies. I have to give all the credit to you, Betty and Gail,
for
solving the problem. You are terrific researchers. Now, I can honestly
say
from which William (1761-1851) I descend (probably the poor one).
Also, while I'm throwing out praise, do you recall the discussion
about
the monument erected at one of the Revolutionary cemeteries (maybe
Atlanta,
GA) by the DAR, for the 'wrong William Carmack'? I can't
seem to find
that
email material.
I want to send the information to a cousin in OK who has been the
major
contributor of my family history. I believe he will be quite
surprised to
learn that the wrong William Carmack has a monument erected in his honor.
I hope everyone will go back and make corrections to the "William
Carmacks' " birth/death dates, marriages, children and military records.
That is the most messed-up situation I've seen.
Thanks a million for all your efforts and hard work.
Pat
