For any relative, there looks to be a Shellback Certificate in there for IJ
Carmack when he crossed the equator while in the Navy. This would be a
great find for any ancestor.
Some history on Shellbacks:
In the U.S. Navy, when a ship crosses the equator a time-honored ceremony
takes place. This is a Navy tradition and an event no sailor ever forgets.
With few exceptions, those who have been inducted into the "mysteries of the
deep" by Neptunus Rex and his Royal court, count the experience as a
highlight of their naval career. Members of Neptunus Rex's party usually
include Davy Jones, Neptune's first assistant, Her Highness Amphitrite, the
Royal Scribe, the Royal Doctor, the Royal Dentist, the Royal Baby, the
Royal Navigator, the Royal Chaplain, the Royal Judge, Attorneys, Barbers and
other names that suit the party.
Officially recognized by service record entries indicating date, time,
latitude and longitude, the crossing of the equator involves elaborate
preparation by the "shellbacks" (those who have crossed the equator before)
to ensure the "pollywogs" (those who are about to cross the equator for the
first time) are properly indoctrinated. All pollywogs, even the Commanding
Officer if he has not crossed before, must participate.
A Golden Shellback is one who has crossed the equator at the 180th meridian.

I found another eBay listing today that looks like the actual album the
previous pictures were from. They are being sold by the same person
though???

Here is the text description:
This is a great photo album from the WWII U.S.S. Lexington. It is in very
good condition. The major drawback is the pics are gone from inside. The
owner I J Carmack wrote below what the pictures were. They were all from
Pearl Harbor in the 1942 attack. There is some pages of where the Ship had
gone and on what dates, and a lot of signatures in the buddy section. There
is a few pics left, but according the captions the best ones are invisible.

& Cora Carmack. Norm, one of your guys?

I can't believe some of the things that show up on eBay. I also
can't
believe there isn't a relative who wouldn't want this. Here is a link
to a photo album which belonged to I.J. Carmack of Bombing Squadron
202, aboard the U.S.S. Chandeleur. Here is the text description:

I don't even know where to begin on this one. There is so much
Historical value in this Photo Album I can hardly believe it. The
album belonged to I.J. Carmack of Bombing Squadron 202, aboard the
U.S.S. Chandeleur. Many of the photos are marked on the back,
'Confidential, not to be used for publication. With one or another
Dept of Military under that. Many actual War Action photos, showing
Kamikaze attacks, burning ships (named), Japanese
Battlefield aftermaths (some gruesome), lots of signed Pilot Photos,
Scenes
from the Fighting Three's picnic for Survivor's of the Lexington (not many
guys there), Saipan Invasion, Japanese Admiral signing Surrender in at
Ominato, SIGNED Letter from Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal to
Carmack, Iwo Jima Battlefields, and a picture that resembles the Most
famous
Iwo Jima Photo ever taken of the Soldiers raising the flag. There is some
Japanese Head Bands and medals which he named what battle he took them
from
a fallen Japanese Soldier. I could go on and on. It goes on to the
Phillipines, China, and finishes up in Honshu Japan.
