Hi Carmack folks...
This appears to be referring to what I have always had as Thomas 'K.'
Carmack, son of John Wesley Carmack and brother to my Great
Grandfather, John Wilson Carmack. However, because his gravestone
said '1829 - 1907' , I have always used that as his year of death,
not having an actual date. Another factor showing it should be him
is, the article states that he died at the home of his daughter,
Mrs. F. A. Schute, and my Thomas had a daughter named Francis A.
Carmack, and in my research, I have found the following which lends
even more credence to the probability that this is, indeed, Thomas K.
Carmack, born 11 May 1829, son of John Wesley Carmack.
The info I have found is:
"Lt. Thomas K. Carmack : (December 1857 - March 1858 - Texas Mounted Rangers)
Capt. Thomas K. Carmack Texas Co. G, 5th Partisan Rangers served in
Confederate Army.
He is buried in the Columbia (Pioneer-IOOF-City) Cemetery
Boulder, Colorado third And Pleasant Street , Boulder, CO 80302
This cemetery dates back to 1800's and is well cared for.
Thomas was shown as a 'minister' in the Jack County, Texas 1870
Census. On that 1870 census, there was a "Frederick Shute,
Physician, b. Abt 1844 in Louisiana" living in the household.
So, it is my opinion that this is Thomas K. Carmack, son of John
Wesley Carmack, and whose daughter was Francis A. Carmack, who
married one Frederick Schute. While his actual gravestone says
"THOMAS K. CARMACK 1829 - 1907, and this newspaper, dated 14 Dec
1906, with the article, dated 13 Dec 1906, stating that he died "this
evening", I would be inclined to believe that the newspaper is
correct and the gravestone is in error. Now the middle initial is
another matter, I'm going to stick with Thomas 'K.' Carmack on that
one until someone shows more proof of validity.
Cheers to all ....you up North..stay warm ....you down south,
enjoy !!! (although we are in 40's with low's around 30F here right now)
