Thanks for the response. I have a conscription form for Enoch Carmac for
Company F, 50th Infantry. Age of this Enoch is in question, but I assume it
was just error in transcribing. It is taken that this Enoch Carmac(k) is my
gr'grandfather. And yet, my gr'grandfather returned to VA to find his wife,
thinking he was dead, had remarried. He supposedly left the area, went to
Indiana and joined the Union Army. Possibly married again. (all this took
place after mid summer 1863 [conscription shows he deserted in summer of
1863] He died in 1863) Another cousin has found info at DC library for an
Enoch Carmack, who, she says is our gr'grandfather, showing he was cited for
his performance in the Union Army.
I have yet to see that material or the source from which it came. A
letter from the son, Abe, written in 1928 says Enoch died in Indiana in 1863.
No further information is given.
It would be great if I could find more information on this man. I would
like to learn if he died in battle.
Thanks. Pat
