OK, I am away from all my records at this moment but I do remember
there was a branch or more of Carmacks who migrated to Indiana area.
Have you heard of Dr Peckham's book? I am away from it too but
someone on rootsweb may be able to furnish his e-mail as I understand
he now has an address. His specialty was the northern branch as his mom
was a Carmack and they were all "northernors". Other Carmacks are
listed in his book in answer to queries he had sent out before he
published it.

I am quite surprised at the small number of Carmack descendants
who
responded to the last Roll Call. I agree that given a second try,
maybe that
list could be longer. Now folks, I know I have lots of Carmack
Cousins out
there, so get on the ball and add your name to the list. By adding
your
lineage, you help us, and we can help you!!
I'm still looking for dear ole' Gr'grandpa Enoch who died in 1863
somewhere in Indiana. NARA provided nothing for me, but there must be
information somewhere. I suspect that after serving the Confederacy,
he left
his unit and headed north to Indiana. Possibly joining the Union
Army.
Anybody with access to 1863 Union/Confederate burial records for
Indiana,
please see if Enoch might be listed in your county. Sure would like
to know
where Gr'grandpa Enoch Carmack died (born July 3, 1836, VA). Rumor
has it he
was cited for being a spy for the Union Army---just a rumor, don't
know where
the party got the info. I haven't found very many Carmacks named
"Enoch", so
there shouldn't be a problem in confusing records of those by the same
name.
