I am also a descendant of Levi-Isaac Carmack and have no idea what you are
referring to us being related to the Boone family. Can you enlighten me?

Bill,
Your cemetery research, I am sure, is quite helpful to those descended
from Isaac Carmack, 1816, son of Levi, 1791, and Elizabeth (Peters)
Carmack. Thanks for giving the directions to the cemetery. I live in
Lexington and hopefully, I can make time to take a drive to that vicinity.
I descend from Isaac's brother, Enoch, born 1836.
I have been curious about the Peters line of ancestors, and not long ago
received the list for that lineage. Naturally, living near Daniel Boone
National Forest and growing up with the history of Daniel, my eyes perked
when I saw the name Boone in Elizabeth's ancestry. It was there! So,
those of you descended from Levi and Elizabeth, you are also descended
from Daniel Boone's younger brother, Samuel, who is buried in a small
church cemetery in the DB National Forest, near Lexington, KY.
Cousin Pat

In Search of Jacob Carmack:
Today I spoke these words – “Hello, Great Great Grandmother!”
And a minute later I said, “Hello, Great Great Grandfather!”
And part of a GREAT mystery (at least for me and my family) has been
solved.
I was speaking to long dead Reverend Jacob Carmack (1840-1900) and his
wife Elizabeth Chadwell (1837-1923).
Jacob was son of Isaac Carmack 1816-1862 and both fought at battle of Mill
Springs -Somerset, Ky. Isaac died there... both Confederate soldiers...
I was standing at their graves – in a small hilltop cemetery about 7 miles
south of Bybee, Kentucky – I went down the Brassfield-Bybee road at Bybee
(off Route #52, the Richmond to Irvine Road], drove on past Dodd road
another 1 ½ miles to Panola Road and turned left down Panola Road another
1 ½ miles (past the Brassfield Baptist Church on the left) to find the
hilltop graveyard on the left.
The cemetery is gated and locked – but the gate is easy to slip thru if
you are less than 3 feet wide. I do not know the name of the cemetery.
Their graves are at the very back of the property, extreme right, as you
enter the gate and turn right. Elizabeth’s grave is marked facing you as
you walk towards it, but Jacob’s much smaller stone (on her left) is
engraved on the other side.
Elizabeth’s stone is in very good shape and all engraving is legible.
Jacob’s stone is mostly legible; except for an area near top that
obviously has several words engraved into it, enclosed by a rectangle…I
could not make out anything.
His stone is deteriorating badly.
When I faced Jacob’s stone where I could read the engraving I noticed
another relative (SURPRISE) to his right – I believe it says Isabell, wife
of Jesse Spicer - and she died young at 21 in 1898. The stone is in bad
shape. I haven’t checked yet, but I think Isabell is Jacob and Elizabeth’s
daughter, one of the many sisters to my g-grandma Susan Jane Carmack(1869)
Spicer. Checked, and YEP… Isabell is Susan Jane’s sister, and I have her
listed as “married to unknown Spicer”…
And I haven’t checked Jesse Spicer’s relationship to me yet, but I think
he’s my g-grandpa Wm Spicer’s brother…(Yep – born 1870 – so the unknown
Spicer isn’t unknown anymore! He’s son of Samuel Spicer 1838 and Eliza
Stamper 1842 )… then on to the right of Isabell are two other stones,
pretty much totally worn away, but I think I see Rachel xx on one and
Ester XX on the other (XX means some character I can’t decipher)… the rest
of the stones are just too worn away, although much writing is apparently
upon them…
The VIEW from the highest point in the cemetery is breathtaking! I can
understand why it was a chosen place…
I only found these graves due to a most important clue given by Tony
(Carmack) Root (great Carmack researcher) which indicated that Jacob
Carmack (1840) was “an elder” of the Drowning Creek Baptist Church in
Madison Co. Kentucky and died in March of 1900 – so I assumed he would be
buried at the church’s graveyard.
I have been searching for the last couple weeks for his final resting
place.
Drowning Creek separates Madison from Estill County. I have several
relatives who live near the area.
So another important clue was gleaned from relative Todd Maupin’s uncle -
that the current Panola Baptist Church was at one time named Drowning
Creek Baptist, and also the church’s old cemetery was on a hill before you
reached the actual church…
In fact, I never went farther down the road after finding the cemetery –
so I didn’t even see Panola Baptist Church. I think it probably is only a
hundred or so yards out of sight down the hill.
So – Jacob buried his daughter Isabell, on that hill, in 1898 while an
elder of the Drowning Creek Baptist Church… and only two years later he
would die and be buried to her left… then in 1923 when Elizabeth, Jacob’s
wife and Isabell’s mother died, she was buried to the left of Jacob…
There may be more of the family in there – as the two stones to the right
of Isabell are virtually unreadable.
This has been like a detective story - no one in my family knew anything
about Jacob or wife - only that Jacob was a preacher... and supposedly a
Cherokee Indian one, at that... the preacher part is true...
Would like to attach pictures: don't know how...

small stone to her left and engraved on opposite side.
