Norm,
Sorry it took so long to answer.
I received the following email in response to that posting.
"I believe that the Mary Carmack in your message very well could be the Mary Cookson
who married Cornelius Carmack, son of John Carmack. According to a copy of a record that
I have, their first child Elizabeth was born
6 Oct 1773, and I believe this was just before they moved to VA with his father John
Carmack. It says their next child was John born 17 Aug 1775 (which is beside the point,
but it continues to list their children)
This is not much help on your question, but it shows it is possibly that Mary. I received
this copy from Erma Carmack.
It is a "Carmack family record found in an old book bought in East Tennessee by Mr.
Hooberry and presented to the archives Aug 12 1927." I presume that means the Tenn.
State Archives. There seems to be an error in the marriage date given for Cornelius
Carmack and Mary Cookson because it says there were married in the 8th day of October
1778. That probably is a typographical error because their 3rd child Rachel was born 6
July 1777, then Susannah 4th child, born 5 June 1779.
Another clue is that it says Mary Cookson was the daughter of Samuel and Jane Cookson. As
for being a Quaker, I have no information.
Betty"
Since this is not my line I did no further research.
Judy

Hi Judy !
Long time no hear you on the list !!
I was cleaning out some 'very old' emails and came upon this one...and in
looking at what I have (which isn't always correct, but assumed so) at the
time of this 'marriage' , I would show Mary Cookson only about 5 years
old....do you have her birthdate as 1768? If so...I'm thinking that the
'witnesses' to that marriage of 1776 might have been Cornelius and his
sister, Mary ...Huh?
Love to you,
NOW...I will erase this old email !!!!

I was at the library a couple of days ago, just pulling books out of
the
Maryland section, checking the index, and found this:
"Marriages: Samuel Cookson, Westminster Town, Frederick Co., MD and Mary
Haines of Pipe Creek, 20th day of 1st month, 1773 at Pipe Creek Meeting
House. Witnesses:----Mary Carmack -----Cornelius Carmack---"
Is the above mentioned Mary Carmack the Mary Cookson Carmack who married
Cornelius Carmack, son of John? If so, was she a Quaker?
I didn't copy all the names of the witnesses; however, if anyone is
interested I can copy them the next time I go to the library.
