Hello Millie, Norm, Cal and others interested in
what I have for HARDIN CARMACK.
In 1979 I received the following information
from Mrs Benton McMasters (Irene). She is a
Great Granddaughter of Hardin P. Carmack
and Minerva (Hull) Logan. (This must be the
other wife, as Norm said he had 2 wives).
Coming down the tree she said her
grandparents were Clovis C.Carmack and
Sarah Emma Tefertiller (both born and died in
Dade Co.MO.) Their picture was featured in
Carmack Cousins Newsletter, Vol III, No. 1.
She did not give her parent's names.
Going back up her tree from Hardin her Gr
Grandfather are:
John Carmack & Elizabeth Chapin
James Carmack & Nancy McMillan
Cornelius Carmack and Lettice
Cornelius Carmack and Margery Jane Evans
William Carmack and Mary Jane McDaniel
Cornelius Carmack and Guien
Hardin had a brother named Joseph Warren
Carmack who never married and his picture is
in CC Newsletter, Vol II, No.3. Other than
some b & d dates and counties, this is all I
have, but it is from Hardin's great
granddaughter, which should carry some
weight. I say that because of the information
that is in "The Carmack Family Genealogy"
which I believe is wrong. On page 125 the
John 5 Carmack (Chapin wife) is shown with a
different ancestry than Mrs. McMasters gives us
and I believe the book is wrong. The ancestry
line given in the book -- Christopher 1,
Cornelius 2, John 3, William 4, is my line of
ancestry and we do have a John W. 5, the son
of William 4, but he was born in 1816 and
married Matilda Lyon, 1st and Minerva Miles
2nd. So the John on page 125 has the wrong
ancestry shown.
The John (&Elizabeth Chapin) on page 125 are
also incorrectly listed as part of the family of
William 4, on page 92 of the "Red book" This
John (and Elizabeth Chapin) belongs as a son
in the family of James 6 Carmack on page 139.
I cannot help on the Carmack/Nickel marriage.
Cal, I am cc-ing you this because it shows an
error in the red book, concerning my line which
you are ready to work on.
Betty Mealy

someone on the list will know them.
Hardin Carmack of Missouri and Miss Rachael Mack of Kansas Territory Linn
County 20 Aug 1858
Mary Ann Leavina Carmack and Amos Nickel both of Lawful age and citizens of
Said County(Linn Co. KS) 6 Nov 1864
They may be related to my Carmacks but don't know how. Hope someone knows
who they are.
