Hi Norm,
The Gwen we are referring to as of late is one and the same as Guein Carmack
wife of Cornelius b 1681. There have been several posts suggesting a tie to
her maiden name being Jones vice Corem, nothing definative yet.
Good hearing from you.

Karen,
I don't have any answers for you but I have some similar information. I
received the following from Judy Carmack French:
"Gwen Carmack, housewife, relinquished her right of dower when in August
1741, Jonathan Jones, of Chester County, Pennsylvania, converted his
inheritance on Deer Creek to William Smith of Lancaster County,
Pennsylvania" (source: "Baltimore County Families 1659-1759)
Ship "The Morning Star"-Master:Thomas Hayes-Date of Arrival 11/1683-William
ap John Jones, wife Ann Reynold, and children John, Alice, Katherine and
Gwen. (William (ap John) means William, son of John)
List of Taxables for London Britain Township, Chester Co., Pa for 1715
shows
John Jones (Freeman: Thomas Harry, William Ockin)
"Release of Right. On 23 January 1753 Richard Lawrence & Cathrine his
wife,
WILLIAM JONES & ANNE his wife, Swain Justice & Mary his wife,
Thomas
Perkins
& Hannah his wife, Charles Lawrence, Benjamin Howell &
Rebeccah his wife,
all of Chichester to John Moor of Chichester. Richard Lawrence & Cathrine
his wife, WILLIAM JONES & ANNE his wife, Swain Justice & Mary his wife,
Thomas Perkins & Hannah his wife, Charles Lawrence, Benjamin Howell &
Rebecca his wife confirm & release to John 14+ acres. Signed Richard
Lawrence, Cathrine Lawrence, WILLIAM JONES, ANNE JONES, Swain Justice, Mary
Justice, Thomas Perkins, Hannah Perkins, Charles Lawrence, Benjamin Howell
&
Rebecca
Howell. Delivered in the presence of John Rawson, Joseph Holwell &
Elizabeth Worell.
Recorded 20 May 1754. (IJ9:144). (Abstracts and Deeds of Chester County,
Pennsylvania)"
There are numerous references to John Jones in several books on Chester
County, in the St Louis Public Library. Chester County, Pennsylvania
shares
a common border with Cecil County, Maryland.
If Jones is Gwen's maiden name, then their son John may be named after her
father.
Basically I think all of this is really compelling that Gwen's maiden name
was Jones. Anyone else have anything on this?

Anyone know anything about Gwin's 1st husband or Jonathan Jones?
