Agnes,
Was it in one of your newsletters that you stated Cornelius & Lettice's
children (or some of them) were listed in the Speck Bible? Do you have a
copy of those bible pages?
I really found that interesting that Isaac may have had children by
Elizabeth. I have often wondered. The 1840 Census of Perry Co. IL shows 1
male 15 to 20; 2 males 20 to 30; and 1 male 50 to 60. The first male would
be Samuel, the two in the 20 to 30 group - one of them would be Isaiah. He
married Ann Stockbridge. They are on the 1850 census of Perry Co. but can't
find them after that. Don't know who the other male is. Probably another son
but don't know what his name is. Could this be George Washington and he
returned to Overton Co.? The 1840 census lists 1 female 10 to 15; 1 female
15 to 20; 1 female 50 to 60. Teletha C. is Isaac's youngest daughter. She
married Amos Smith and remained in Perry Co. The daughter in the 15 to 20
brackett must be Elizabeth. She married Hardy Holman 6th Nov 1840. They
moved from Perry Co. and I haven't found them. Isaac's daughter Patsey
married Aaron A. Holman 27 Nov 1838.
Isaac is still living in 1850. He is on the census living amongst his
children and their families. Isaac 63 and Sarah 64.
Yes, Samuel did die in KS. Descendants of Samuel's second wife (who was a
sister to his first wife) say that he was murdered over a boundary dispute.
I have not found proof of this yet.
Mary Ann & other Cousins,
I am posting this to the list because I remembered where I got the birth
date for Isaac. It was from the family bible of his son Samuel. Samuel was
my great great grandfather. Too bad Samuel didn't list the death dates for
his parents.
Only their birth and marriage dates. Isaac's wife Sarah Baynes was born in
Mecklenburg Co. VA. She and Isaac were married in Davidson Co. TN.
