Just a little historic trivia-There were free blacks in Maryland from the very beginning.
The interesting thing about them is that they owned black slaves.
At some point in time, I'll post the 1860 information.

I find this Carmack listed as one of 30 crewmembers of the Civil War ship
USS CERES...anyone know the connection? I see his race is shown as 'Mullato"

`64 at Baltimore, MD; a 20 year old Waiter. Later was assigned to the USS
Kineo.
