In a book called the "Sequatchie Families" by James L. Douthat,
there is a biographical sketch of the Sherrill family. I don't think it
answers the question of who this Mary Carmack is but I'll send it
any way.
By the way my line is also John Carmack of Bledsoe Co also.
Sherrill Family
Adam Sherrill came to Sequatchie Valley in 1810 from Roane
County (NC). He filed on July 19, 1811 for 54 acres more of land
that adjoined 70 acres more in Grassy Cove that included the cove
spring. At the same time, one Charles K., a son of Adam, filed on
October 30, 1813 for 100 acres on the Obeys River on both sides
of the turnpike from Crab Orchard to White Court House.

Adam Sherrill was born 1758 on the Yadkin River in North Carolina,
the son of Samuel and Mary (Preston) Sherrill. Samuel was the
son of Adam Sherrill of North Carolina and came to Washington
County, Tennessee where he established his home "Daisy Fields"
on the Nolichucky River in that county. His home was attacked by
the Indians in February of 1782. A daughter of Samuel, named
Catherine, "Bonnie Kate." married John Sevier. Three of Samuel's
Sons fought in the battle of King's Mountain, including Adam.
Adam Sherrill first married Mary Carmack and secondly Rebecca
Kilgore. During december 1780, Adam was engaged in the Battle of
Boyd's Creek when his horse threw him and in the fall some of his
ribs were broken. An Indian sprang upon him with tomahawk
upraised to strike the fatal blow when a shot rang out and the bullet
from a comrade of Adam killed the Indian. Adam received a land
grant from the State of NC for 400 acres on the Little Limestone
River in Washington County. In 1783, he was recorded as having
paid taxes on 200 acres of land on Poplar Creek. He sold his land
in 1807 and moved away from there to Bledsoe County. Not all of
his children are known, but the following are his: Craven who
married Mary A. Branson; Charles Kilgore; Enos who married Mary
Abernathy; Hannah who married William Houston and Catsey who
married Robert Samuel Mahan of Roane County.
Craven Sherrill was listed as early as 1830 in Bledsoe records. He
was elected to the 24th, 25th, and 29th General Assemblies from
1841-1845 and 1851-1853 to represent Bledsoe and Morgan
counties. It is reported that he was born in Russsell County, VA on
June 9, 1801, a fact borne out by the 1850 Bledsoe County census.
There is more but on his children.....
There was a Samuell Sherrill who was also married to a Mary
Carmack. I can't tell you how true the information is..

Hi Judy,
Do you think that 'Samuel Sherrill' family might have anymore on the 'Mary
Carmack ' in question? I didn't pursue it to that point...
Love
Norm
