I recently joined the Daughters of the American Revolution as I could trace my lineage
back to Evan Carmack, husband of Mary Wolfe, who is considered a Patriot because he signed
the Oath of Allegiance and served on the Committee of Observation in Frederick County, MD
during the Revolutionary War. This line had previously been closed (called “red-lined”) as
additional proof was needed to link the children to the parents. I found that proof in the
Maryland Archives.
It started when Mary’s father, Paul Wolfe, died in the summer of 1775 and left property in
his will to his son Jacob. If Jacob died without children, the property was to be divided
between his two sisters, Mary wife of Evan Carmack, and Sarah wife of John Carmack (who
happened to be Evan’s brother). Jacob died married but childless in April, 1823.
From the Equity Court Records of Frederick County, MD, Liber JS-5, pp.
263-294, located at the Maryland State Archives MSA &2936, Loc 2-70-10-5:
“...the said Evan Carmack and Mary Carmack his wife have been dead a number of years
and died leaving the following children and grand children Peter Carmack, Catharine
Carmack, Anna Carmack, now the wife of Nathan Hammond, Elizabeth the wife of William Durn,
Mary the wife of William Hahn the children. Jacob Carmack one of the children of Evan
Carmack and Mary his wife is dead leaving the following children (viz) Evan Carmack,
Samuel Carmack, Martha the wife of David Ott, Mary now wife of Jacob Snider, Christian
Carmack & Jacob Carmack the last of whom is an infant {minor} under the age of
twenty-one years. Margaret Carmack one of the children of Evan Carmack and Mary his wife
intermarried with William Murphy, and is dead leaving children William Murphy, Mary
Murphy, Joshua Murphy and Elizabeth Murphy who are infants {minors} under the age of
twenty-one years...” July 2, 1827
Other documents have listed these individuals (the property transfers throughout the next
couple decades generated a lot of court paperwork) but only this one actually identifies
them as children of Evan and Mary. Note that Evan had been dead a number of years by 1827
(since about 1811 the best I can determine). He has frequently been confused with an Evan
Carmack that moved to Virginia (later West Virginia) and died there in 1830.
So, if you are a descendant of one of these children (Peter Carmack, Anna Carmack Hammond,
Elizabeth Carmack Durn/Dern, Mary Carmack Hahn, Jacob Carmack, or Margaret Carmack Murphy,
you too can now join the DAR (or SAR). If descended from Peter, Elizabeth, or Jacob part
of your work is already done for you. (see
http://services.dar.org/members/DAR_Research/search_adb/?action=full&... ).
If I can help any let me know.
Also detailed in the court document mentioned above are the heirs of John and Sarah
(Carmack) Wolfe, who had been dead a number of years too. John is considered a Patriot
also.

you want more information on his family let me know.
