There have been recently several mentions of the George Washington Carmack who discovered
gold in the Yukon. There is a small town in the Yukon called "Carmacks" and
years ago I wrote to the town and ordered T-shirts for my grandchildren.
In the meantime there is a book called "Carmack of the Klondike' by James Albert
Johnson. Years ago while I was in the State of Washington I went to the University of
Washington bookstore and was able to buy a copy. Then I wrote to the publisher to obtain
copies for my immediate family and then again later wrote for a copy for my grandchildren
to pass around)

My late Grandfather, George Carmack is GW's great nephew. "Carmack of the
Klondike" is a good reference although they are now refuting that GW made the
discover but that his Indian assistant did. Which makes sense since Carmacks are not known
for standing up for themselves.
Marcy, George's wife is turning 100 this July 25, 2012 in Billings. The Gazette was
going to do a story about her late husband's connections to GW but she didn't want
to talk about it.

have yet to find the book in a bookstore but he wrote one on "Klondike Gold". He
was surprised when I told him about GW Carmack.
