Hi,
I am Billy Ray Lee and am researching my grandmother who is Amie Estella
Carmack (Lee).
I found a comment you made Date: Fri, 25 Nov 2011. The following information
shows my Carmack relationship.
Amie Estella Carmack was born in 1895 to Jonathan Robert Carmack and Martha
Elizabeth Jane Holder. I have a picture of Amie and her Mother in 1901 on
Amie’s wedding day. Family tradition is that Amie’s full name was Amie Berry
Tommy Dan James William Alcey Ann Estella Frances Carmack. It is not totally
clear why she inherited all these names, but reviewing the Holder family,
all these names appear as relatives.
Sometime before 1900 two of Amie’s brothers, Ossie and Jessie and her father
Jonathan Robert Carmack died. Amie’s mother Martha was left with son Pell
and daughter Amie and no way to support them. Pell went to work as a farm
hand for a family in Faulkner County, a neighboring county near El Paso,
Arkansas, where they were listed in the 1880 census living near his uncle
Pell and Willoughby. Martha moved with Amie to Van Zandt County, Texas to
live with her brother James Holder and her sister Alcey Ann.
Amie met George Alvin (my grandfather) perhaps while working in a cotton
field and at age 16, married George Alvin Lee July 21, 1901 in Lampasas,
Texas. I have a picture of them on their wedding picture. They lived in
Lampasas for the several years. She and G.A. had 7 children 5 of whom lived
to adulthood: their youngest child (Steve George Lee) was my father.
I hope I have not scarred you off but I am trying to find more information
about Amie who died in 1916 when my father was only 3. I have a few stories.
In 1910 they were living in Scurry county where Pell lived. Pell is suppose
to be listed in the 1910 census and I bet that G.A. and Amie would be on the
same census if I can find how to get to it.
I hope you are willing to share information.
