Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I received the e-mail from Cousin Dale and a big Thank You to him for notifying his clan so we can stay in touch. Sheri Blackman If there are any reunions coming up, please notify me. And not just Carmacks--Walters, Carver,Bryant, Bryan, Trent, Cagle, Golding, Michaud, Von Kilanoski, Burgess, Payne and more--never know who might be interested in pics or letters I might have. I'm trying to help a few people with posting problems. One possible problem
seems to be the Format of the messages being sent to the list. Please
ensure you only send in Plain text format, no HTML. Messages sent to the
list need to be sent in plain text or it may appear blank. Messages may
also appear blank if the sender copies and pastes the message from a Word
document. I believe this is OK once it is then sent as plain text. Bottom
line is Plain text.
Another oddity is the header. The test email I sent showed the following in
the From line:
carmack-bounces(a)rootsweb.com [mailto:carmack-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf
Of Dale Carmack
The carmack-bounces address shows up because of the way my email reads the
header (I use Microsoft Outlook, I think Microsoft Outlook Express reads the
same way). You can see it says "listname-bounces(a)rootsweb.com on behalf of
Dale Carmack". Depending on each of the list subscribers email clients, you
may see the listname-bounces(a)rootsweb.com, the sender's email information,
or, like in Outlook, a combination of both. The reason is that all email
clients "read" the message headers differently and display the "from"
addresses accordingly. This is just one of the differences between Mailman
(the new system) and the old system, SmartList.
Here is how to set Plain text for Outlook Express:
Save the Carmack List address in your Contacts List. Then on the Contacts
Name tab check the box that says "Send email using plain text only".
If your using Outlook:
Save the Carmack List address in your Contacts List. Then open the contact.
In the E-mail box, double-click the contact's e-mail address. In the
Internet Format list, select the format you want to use for messages to this
recipient, in this case Plain text.
I can't help on any other email client, try searching under Help for Plain
Text.
I hate to suggest it, but the recent change to a new system for the Rootsweb
lists seems to be excluding some people from posting to the Carmack list.
Please reply to this email and ensure you send the email to the Carmack list
address and my own. You can now use either:
Carmack-L(a)rootsweb.com or
Carmack(a)rootsweb.com
Thanks,
dale
