Most of the error's I've found in the Carmack book are because of lack of information the author had at the time he wrote the book. And, I realize it is impossible to collect all the data and get it in one book. I did not do much work on family history until after I retired. Here are a few things that I have found that could be corrected if another book is ever written about Carmack families. On p. 106, Under children of Cornelius Carmack and Leticia McMillan, Isaac Carmack (my great, great, grandfather) had a second marriage to Sarah Bayne March 11, 1819. This is reflected on p. 142 and also lists their four children. On p. 178 under Samuel Carmack (my great grandfather) he may have been murdered over a "boundary" (rather than laundry) dispute. Samuel had six children with Nancy Keen. The oldest, Thomas served in the Civil War as a Union Soldier as the book states. He was in was a private in Co. "E" 6th Kansas Calvary, and was captured at Massard Prairie, Arkansas, n!
ear Ft. Smith, on 7/27/1864 and in prison at Camp Ford, Tyler, Texas. He was exchanged on 5/22/1865. This information was verified by Randy Gilbert who was the defacto repository of Camp Ford data bases in 1999. The next child born to Samuel and Nancy was William Carmack. As far as we know, he never served in the Civil War as stated on p. 178. The third child, George Washington Carmack was my grandfather. He moved from Perry County Illinois, as the book states. This was in 1876 with two of his brothers, Isaac Alford and John Cornelius. He married Sarah Ann Walsh and they had six children. A seventh child died at birth. On p. 230 where it lists the children of G.W. and Sarah Ann Carmack, the second child Alice Blanche Carmack died April 24, 1975, NOT 1945. The third child, Georgia Gladys Carmack died May 10, 1982. The fifth child was Bertha Zephyr Carmack. Her middle name is not spelled correctly. The sixth child was my mother, Ruth Oline (NOT OLIVE) Carmack died !
October 9, 1965. The seventh child, William Carmack was born March 1, 1901 and died soon after birth. The seven children are listed again on pages 279 and 280. If anyone ever writes another book, I could provide a lot of information about the children of the six children of G.W. and Sarah Ann Carmack. I have established lineage for Daughters of the American Revolution back to Cornelius Carmack b.1759, d. 1848 and have pictures of memorial stones for him and his father, also Cornelius, in Pickett County, Tennessee. One other error that I'll note is on p. 232 under John Cornelius Carmack. His wife was the older sister of "George and Lee Mayes who married two of the George Carmack daughters (not sisters) - Mary and Alice."
I think it is impossible to ever get all the information collected and correct. Hopefully if another book is written, it can be posted on the Carmack Rootsweb and we can all contribute information.

Hello Cousin's & fellow Researcher's,
It has been very quiet on this list.
Several years ago there was a lot of conplaints about error's in the Carmack
Book. I have been waiting to see the corrections posted with proof of the
error's but nothing has been posted. Since the book was written I have some
updated material on Jacob 1828, John 1827, Issac 1816
I'm still working on Jacob Carmack 1828, Issac Carmack 1816, John Carmack
1827. Sons of Levi Carmack 1791 & Elizabeth Betty Peters.
Jacob & John settled in Owsley County Ky. Both of them had land Grants on
Rattlesnake Br Right Fork of Buffalo Ck. They married sisters.
A brickwall I have with John is he was in 1 Owsley Census then in the next
census his wife was remarried.
Something I have never seen posted is where in Claiborne Co. Tenn did Levi &
Elizabeth Betty Carmack live. I would love to go on down to Clairborne Co &
explore where they raise their family.???
I travel down to Owsley-Clay-Breathitt-Perry County 6 or 7 times a year for
Reunions, Research Vaction & ATVing on Buffalo Ck.
Tony
P.S. Elizabeth Betty Peters Carmack was living with her Son Abraham 1826
on Traeller's Rest Owsley county, Ky in 1 census about 1870
Hi out there...
All you Carmack's must be hibernating. Take heed! It's summer....sleep
time is OVER!!....
Anyone found Cornelius's link back to the olde country yet? HAh ! maybe
this will be the year, huh?>>>>don't we hope!
Would like CARL YOUNG to get in touch with me re info on Joseph Marion
Carmack....or anyone else who has contact with that lineage....I have a
young lady who is close kin and looking for answers...would put you in
touch with her..
Thanks,
Norm Carmack

OK, if I miss any correspondence from this lady please keep me in mind.
I visited Notasulga,
Al in my search for Carmacks and there is still a store there named after
Carmacks and run by Carmacks
but unfortunately when I was there owner's wife said they were not
interested in family history.
It could have all changed so it might be worth writing to the store for
Carmack info. I walked around the cemetary and if my memory is correct
the land for this cemetary was donated by Furney Carmack. I am going by
memory so please do not use this as a substantiation.

Nancy,
When you have time to work with Carmack related genealogy again,
please let me know. We may be able to help you ; and you may be able to help
us (Cal Matthews and Jim Carmack).
Our Carmack related database now has about 9,000 names. Data have
been extracted from several sources such as the LDS Ancestral Files, the
IGI, Dr Peckham's Red Book and some of the family group sheets created by
Josephine Carmack and Patsy Webster. Additionally, several Carmack related
genealogists have been kind enough to share their data with us.
We look forward to hearing from you...
