Hi Beth !
Your 'Isaac Carmack' and my GG Grandfather, John Wesley Carmack were
brothers....Do you have any information on their father, Cornelius,
stories, etc that you might share? And do you have complete dates of
birth/death for his Wife, Lettice?
Thanks....take care,
Love

Excuse my "Senior Moment" in my reply above. We only learned his birth
year, not his birth month. October is month he died, not his birth
month, which is unknown. I hate it when I do things like this. Sorry.
Betty
Judy, I am jumping with joy. This mortality schedule information is a
wonderful find. It just shows that all is not as hopeless as we think.
Also shows how helpful people can be, once again. Thank you so much for
taking the time to pass this information.
Yes, according to census records both Williams were born between 1760
and 1770. We already know the Lee Co. William was born 5 Jan 1761. Now
we finally know the birth month and year for the one who stayed in WCVA.
I do want to say that I put it at Oct. 1766 instead of 1767 because the
Mortality Schedules listed deaths for the preceeding census year. That
would be from June of 1849 to June of 1850, making his death October of
1849 instead of 1850. At 83 in 1849, he would have been born in 1766.
His will was filed for probate on 22 Oct 1849. It was wonderful to
finally get a birth year for him.
I recently was lucky and found microfilm of the original Rev. War
Pension Payment Book for Virginia. Entries were made as each payment
was made to the pensioner and when they died an entry was made giving
date of death and when they had been paid in full. There was the (Lee
County) William with entry showing death date of 24 September 1851.
There were 2 Paying Centers for VA, Richmond and Wheeling, and there
were no other Carmacks in the 2 books.
I can't thank you enough, Judy.
Betty

A couple of weeks ago, there was a discussion on the list about the two
William Carmacks, the one in Washington Co., Virginia and the one in Lee
Co., Virginia. If I remember right, Betty said the one in Washinton Co.
was born between 1860 and 1870.
I was going throught some stuff today and found this.
AIS Mortality Schedules Index-Ancestry.com
Year 1850-Carmack, William-(County) Washington, (State) Virginia, (Age)
83, (Sex) Male, (Month of Death) Oct, (State of Birth) Maryland, (Cause
of Death) Old Age, (Occupation) Farmer.
If the above William died in 1850 that would make his date of birth
1767.
Hope this helps someone.

About two years ago I made an extensive effort to find and purchase
"Carmack of the Klondike". I discovered that it had been published
jointly by publishers in Vancouver, B.C. and Seattle, Washington. I was
referred from one to the other with the final conclusion that it was out
of print on both ends and probably would not be re-issued. My
daughter-in-law being a intelligent girl got on the internet and found
one in a used book store in California which I then purchased for $5.00,
a real deal!
Good luck!

I too have a relative searching for a copy of "Carmack of the Klondike"
He finally found a copy in the Memphis, TN Library to read. He was told
it was "out-of-print".
I bought a copy at the University of Washington Campus Bookstore, Seattle
WA some years ago. You might try them. I am away from my geneaology
material and have forgotten how I ordered the book when it first came out
for myself and for each of my immediate family.
But that was about 1990, 1991.
I called Barnes & Noble locally in Austin and it is out-of-print.
Author: James Johnson.
They suggested you look on internet at BN.com at out-of-print section.
She gave me 2 #s for the book: 0945397089 and paperback 0920663109. Let
me hear how you make out.
Epicenter Press, WA was publisher. Also she suggested "HalfPrice
Bookstore" They are a chain.
Let me hear if you have any luck.

I did see a circular by Utah Press and it is still possible to purchase

I would dearly love to correspond about the family. I am also very
interested in ANY substantiation. I have been trying to fill in the blanks
and there are just so many. I am pleased to hear, as inferred by your note,
that Paul Carmack is still active in his research. I am told that he has
done some significant and deep work on this part of the family. My wife is
the granddaughter of Alma Lee and I would very much like to know more about
Alma Lee's family.
I was also told that Lela was still iving in Tennessee... I guess NOrma and
I must have ahad the same sources...
How could I get in touch with Paul Carmack?

any information about this family.

name I don't know and when I tried to call the son I found an unlisted
number.

Carmack. He is the primary researcher of our line, and believes that our
George Washington is the son of William Carmack even though he is not
mentioned in the will. He is mostly going by times and places where the
families were, supported by Dan Buck's notes. I have come up empty handed
in this area, though I'm looking at the possibility of George Washington
Carmack, the grandson (not the son, about whom there is much information) of
Jonathan Carmack.
