No Dale, I do not have a list of those buried who are Carmack
descendants. Sorry.
I need to correct my self. When I said in the first posting that I
believed these were descendants of Evan and Allen. I now believe that
they are only Allen's relatives. The last I knew of Evan he was in
Dent Co. MO. in 1860, but others say he died there after 1870. Because
of him not being in my line I have not searched the 1870 Census.

-------------------------
JAMES HUGHES was born in Erie, Penn., Dec., 13, 1806, and was a son of
Thomas and Martha (Richards) Hughes, pioneers of this county. Our subject
soon after reaching manhood became Postmaster of Erie and subsequently

when he retired from business, and henceforth devoted his attention to
his private affairs. On the 31st of Jan., 1833, he married Emily Carmack,

the former of whom was a Captain in the war of 1812-15. John Cummins, father
of Mrs. Jacob Carmack, served as a Captain in the Revolutionary war. To

Buffalo, N. Y.; Robert K., deceased; James C., deceased; William, deceased;
Thomas, who resides with his mother, and one who died in infancy. Mr. Hughes
died at his handsome residence on west Eighth street March 4, 1875, after

Hello Dale & Gang,
About 5 yrs ago at Frankfort Ky while looking at Ky land Grants & Deeds I
remember seeing Aquilla Carmack's name on a lot of Land in Eastern Ky. If my
memory is correct he owned between 1,000 & 2,ooo acres of land.
Not knowing any better at the time I though to myself he must have been
rich because most people at that time owned 50 -150 acres.
Cousin Tony
Dale,
If you have a copy and I think that I put 1860 TN census in Carmack Cousins
but if not I will check the TN Censues to see if the name is Walter or
Waller, if I do not have the 1860 here at home I will check tomorrow at the
Historical Society when I go out for a meeting. Agnes

Jim,
I picked up a leaflet at the LDS Library here in Lexington and it had the
Civil War website listed. I found my Enoch Carmack (I think) in the
Confederacy, 50th Regiment, Company F (the only Enoch listed). I don't know
if I can wait for them to get the other 5.4 million soldiers listed. I tend
to want things 'right now'! If others are searching the website, be sure and
look under "Carmac" first.
RE: Land Grants. For those who are not familiar with the initial Land
Grant provisions in the early 1700s, cost for passage on ships to America
from England was approximately 9 pounds. Those who intended to farm needed
an additional 10-12 pounds to defray inland transportation, lease of land,
and tools and seeds for farming. This amounted to about a year's earnings.
After fulfilling the residency requirements, individuals having financed
their own passage and that of others was granted 50 acres of land for each
person for whom passage was paid. In the case of one of my ancestors, he was
granted 50 acres of land 16 years after his arrival in Virginia.
Seven years later this same man was granted 403 acres of land. Nothing
is said about payment. Maybe someone else knows why the additional land was
granted. What were the requirements, other than time served in the military?
Pat
This website might be helpful to some of you. I found my grandfather??, and
his two brothers listed in the Union Army.
http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm
"A computerized database that contains brief facts about Union and
Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. The records of 5.4 million
soldiers are currently being added to this site. A search feature allows the
user to search by name, regiment, or state. The original records are housed
at the National Archives, Regimental histories, historical information, and
links to descriptions of 384 significant battles are included. This is a
very interesting and easy-to-use site."
Correction below, Walter Brice Carmack is buried in Poteau, Oklahoma (not
Arkansas).

Carmack Cousins,
I could use some help. I know very little about the Carmack side of my
family. My cousin and I have been able to gather very little information up to
this point as her mother and my father did not know much about their father's
side of the family. Here is what we know so far:
Walter Brice Carmack (my great grand father) married my great grand
mother Macky Chelsea Poarch (also known as "Bigger") -spellings may be off on
her name. He is buried in Poteau, Arkansas. We don't know the years of births,
deaths, weddings, etc., as of yet.
They had 8 children including my grandfather Edward Ward Carmack (also
known as "Josh") born in 1907.
He married Thelma Maxey in 1940. He died September 27, 1964 in Ft. Smith,
Arkansas and was burried in Poteau, OK.
They had 2 children including my father Charles Russell Carmack born
in 10/19/40 in Ardmore, OK and his sister Martha Ann Carmack born in 1942 in
Armore, OK.
Does anyone know anything about Walter Brice Carmack?

Sharon DeBartolo Carmack has an article on Genealogy.com regarding
Christopher Carmack & her opinion of his being the father of Cornelius
I. I was unsuccessful at putting a direct link here but just copy &
paste the address in & you should get to the correct web page.

Does anyone know how Sharon fits into the family tree? I believe she &
her husband live(d) in Colorado.
