Question #1: Levi Carmack, born 1791, died 1866, married Elizabeth (Betty)
Peters. (13 children)
According to a message posted on the list Dec. 27, 1998, the following
information was noted as having been recorded in Dr. Peckham's book: "Levi
Carmack, born 1791, 2nd marriage to Mary Rollins." Can any verify
this data?
Question #2: William Carmack, born 1761, died 1851, married (1) Mary
Catherine Hartsock. (Does anyone have proof of Mary Catherine's death
date?---possibly 1789-90)
It has been noted that this same William married (2) "Sarah Richards,"
(3) Mary 'Polly' Yeary/Ball.
According to the same posting and also recorded in Dr. Peckham's book,
is a marriage for William's grandson, William, to a "Sarah Richards." Can
any clarify this?
Since William was my ggggrandfather, and Levi, my gggrandfather, I sure
would like to know which of the neighborhood women I can claim as my
grandmothers.
Pat O'Neal
Betty:
This message below, from you, makes good sense to me, as I think my
Mary Polly Carmack born abt. 1820 in Va. is the one that wed to Peter
Cline in Putnam Co., Ind. June 5 ,1839. The only Carmack I have been
able to locate in this area at the time is Evan.

After I sent the earlier message today I went back to the computer and
looked at what you have for the families of Allen and Evan, 2 sons of
Wm. Carmack and Margery Catherine Hartsock My spirits fell because I
saw and remembered the conflicting information regarding this Evan.
The root of the problem is that there were 2 Evans born very close
together and are being confused with each other. The one I have been
referring to was born 1796, surely in Wash. Co. VA. because his family
moved there before he was born The other Evan who was born in 1794 in
Frederick Co MD. to Jacob Carmack and his wife Catherine Carmack. This
Jacob Carmack family did not migrate to VA, as did John and Cornelius in
the early 1770's.
(A little poser for you: which one of these Evans would you believe
most likely to be the one marrying in Wash.Co VA to Lydia Kaylor? If
you are like me it would be the Evan who lived in Wash. Co. VA and was
born in Wash. Co VA and the same one whose Father William took him &
brothers to IN. and this Evan and Lydia are found in MO in 1860).
The Evan who was son of Jacob and Catherine Carmack I believe has been
erroneously attached to Lydia Kaylor, but I do not know who he married.
When I go to the computer data for the family of Evan Carmack and Lydia
Kaylor, I find that you are showing what I consider to be the wrong
Evan for the father of this family. I think it should be the Evan who
was the son of Wm Carmack and Margery Hartsock. The census of Dent Co.
MO in 1860 shows "Lidda" and Evan still living , but your FG Sheet shows
a death date for Evan to be 1846, (the year the other Evan died). The
family I gave you for Evan and Lydia was stated to be probably
incomplete, but it does somewhat resemble the family you have shown for
them.
I rest my case, but I sure wish you could question the people who
originated the info you have.
I desperately need to answer some questions from Jim, so I will get this
on it's way.
Betty

Dale, Anyone!
First, let me say that I'm surprised to see that Dale and I are the only
ones brave enough to let everybody see our photos on the "Cuzzins" list.
(You don't think I would post a recent photo, do you? AND, how many of you
can actually identify me?) Notice also---Dale's face is shaded by his hat.
Is that really Dale Carmack on that beautiful sailing vessel that I'm so
envious of????
Second, and seriously: I'm having a problem with a young man named
JACOB who doesn't seem to appear in any of my research materials.
Levi Carmack, born 1791, had a son Jacob, born Feb. 1828.
Levi's son, Isaac, also had a child named Jacob, born Feb. 1840. In the
Census records dated June 1, 1860, of Claiborne County, TN, there is a
listing for Levi's household. In this household are Levi, wife Elizabeth
(Betty), both age 68. Their youngest son, Enoch age 23, his wife Sarah age
19, and their baby Abraham, 6-12 months old.
Also in this list is a child named Jacob, age 10. (the #10 is very
plainly written) WHO IS HE??
Can anyone identify Jacob, born ca. 1850???
I can only assume the child may have been another grandchild to Levi. The
time period would have been just before all the sons enlisted in the Civil
War, The only reason I can see for this child living with his grandparents,
(if they were his grandparents) would be if his mother had died. Any other
options?
This is one of the many items that have me puzzled about the Carmack
clan. I've almost decided to transfer my ancestoral lines to a Smith or
Johnson family---<G>
Pat O'Neal (I was told a Carmack family in VA had a great sense
of humor. Guess it runs in the family.)
Two doctors and an HMO manager died and lined up at the pearly gates for
admission to heaven. St. Peter asked them to identify themselves.
One doctor stepped forward and said, "I was a Pediatric spine surgeon and
helped kids overcome their deformities." St. Peter said, "You may enter."
The second doctor said, "I was a psychiatrist. I helped people rehabilitate
themselves." St. Peter invited him into heaven, too.
The third applicant stepped forward and said, "I was an HMO manager. I
helped people get cost-effective health care." St. Peter said, "You can come
in also."
But as the HMO manager walked by, St. Peter added, "You may stay for three
days. After that you know where you can go..."

The dates are incorrect for the 1840, but could this be your America Carmack
listed in an 1880 census age 25. This family is found living in White
County, Arkansas near children of Samuel B. Carmack. We were wondering if
they were connected to Samuel B. Carmack's family from North Carolina.

Hi cousins,
Can anyone provide any information for me on one America ann Carmack born
about 1840 in Mury Co., TN. and died Mar 9, 1897? She married Hicks ROY.
I'd like to connect her up to her parents, grandparents, etc, back to
Cornelius or someone I know.. haha
Some nice lady is running down my maternal line for me and she had one
Carmack in hers, so I thought we could maybe 'connect'...
Thanks...I know you all have it out there...
Take care...

If Mary Polly Boyd Ferrell's husband joined the Southern Army during the
Civil War & abandoned her in Feb. 1863, when she was 6 months pregnant & she
then married Jesse Ann Carmack in Caldwell TX. ..... who is the father of
her baby born 3 months later & was named Thomas Green Carmack?

Hi James,
I found the information concerning legitimizing James, Jesse, and John in
the Acts of Tennesse 1796 - 1830 (online). Here is a link
http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/c-2.htm. I have seen another
online reference that had the complete text vice the table format in this
URL but cannot locate it at this time.
It states that in 1822 James F, Jesse, and John had their last names (Black)
legitimized by Jesse C. Carmack. I have a marriage date of 1815 but do not
have a source so I do not know if it is valid or not. What marriage date do
you have and do you have a source? If it is 1815 then it is before the
birth of John, Jesse, and James which would not make sense due to the
changing of their last name in 1822 to Carmack.
Also, I have your Margery Jane Carmack's name as Mary Jane, can you confirm
Margery? What is the source?
I don't have anything else on Robert Jones, I obtained his name from Carmack
Cousins Newsletter, Volume III, No. 1, September 1, 1986.
Just curious about what you know of Ann Black. Ann has often been described
to be either full or half Cherokee Indian. The discovery of Ann's parents
(John Black and Margaret Liner) indicates that she was not of indian
descent. (Ref Pension Records)
Also you mentioned Jesse Ann. The middle name Ann has never been confirmed
by any documentation that I have been able to find, though stated
repeatedly. By the way, I descend from his line. I believe the son (Jesse)
of Ann Black and Jesse C Carmack was NOT the same person commonly known as
Jesse Ann Carmack. Jesse Ann Carmack has been traced to Texas from Bledsoe
Co, TN and it is clear from records that he was born in 1797 which makes him
too old to be Ann Black's son. Ann and Jesse C did have a son named Jesse,
probably born in the 1815/1820 time frame.
regards,
dale

I have a question, Dale you mentioned somewhere that John Jackson, James
Francis and Jesse Ann's name was Black and that Jesse C. changed their name
to Carmack. Could you give more detail on this? I have them as born after
Jesse and Ann Black were married. Also, does anyone have any information on
my Robert F. Jones line? I have his father and mother as James Jones and
Rebecca Grey, but can get no further. Robert was born in 1856 in Overton Co.
