Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

I wanted to make everyone on the List aware of a new service offered through
Rootsweb called GenConnect. Most of you all already are familiar with
USGenWeb and WorldGenWeb where they have Country, State, and County web
sites. This has been recently opened up to include what they call Boards
for Family Associations. These Boards can be devoted to queries,
biographies and obituaries, will's, deeds, etc. As a result I have
requested and received a query Board for the Carmack Surname.
In a lot of ways this Board is like GenForum that many of you are familiar
with. One of the nice features of GenConnect is that you can select to
receive an email when someone responds to your query, or also to receive an
email when any query is posted to the Carmack Board. I feel that this Board
will enhance the current Mailing List as it will help make our queries more
public and may help get responses from those that are not members (yet) of
the Carmack Mailing List.
You must be a Rootsweb Sponsor to obtain a Board ($24/yr). I am entitled to
2 boards and only plan to use one. If someone wants to administer another
Board, such as for Carmack biographies and obituaries, will's, deeds, etc. I
could obtain it and transfer administration to you. Make sure you read up
on what is involved in administration and email me privately if you are
interested.
Here are a few URLs to acquaint you with GenConnect:
GenConnect Homepage http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/qindex.html
Visitor Center http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/HINTS/index.html (next link
at the bottom of the page)

If there are any questions let me know and I'll try to answer them. This is
new to me and I am still learning it.
Happy Holidays!

James,
I know my Soloman must be connected to John and Joab but so far I dont
have any documentation that proves or disproves this. I have seen documents
of Joab's that Have Soloman as a witness. I dont remember what they are. The
under 16 year old you are referring to in Soloman's houshold is Jessie Y.
CARMACK. Recently I have been told Y stands for Yancy. I am not sure of
that. Jessie Y Carmack and Julia Ann HEATH had a son William CARMACK b.
1857. That is the only William I know about. I dont know if Soloman, or
Jessie Y. or William CARMACK connect to your William CARMACK or not. My
email is BeauRhodes(a)email.msn.com Let me know what you think.
Thanks

I May have left off that Rainey's Turnpike was in Bledsoe County, 1840
Jesse Carmack, Littleton Cagle and John Rainey are listed on the census
in that area.
Thanks, Agnes Jones
William Cormack, 1860 Census Henry County, age 75, Sarah 69, Elizabeth
Rainey 57, Esther 55, while doing Carmack Cousins we were not able to
find the parents of William and several researched this line, after
taking a few year and not doing research I have recently been getting
back into my notes, John Carmack that lived in Bledsoe County lived on
Rainey's Turnpike, there is a Rainey/Dill cemetery near where he lived
and I have often wondered if there was any connection with these
families. After looking at the land records the Cagle family was in the
same area and I wonder if Lewis Carmack is also part of this family.
There is a Cagle cemetery but we didn't find any old graves, I haven't
looked at the graves in the Rainey/Dill it seems to be older with some
old unmarked graves. All of this is a mystery and hopefully some day
someone will find what we all have been searching for.

I wanted to address this request to BeauRhodes directly but the email
address seemed to be inoperative that I found on the Rootsweb RSL. So I
thought I would send it out in general to see if anyone else could help
me out. I have not seen much about the Carmacks of NC on our site.
In researching my family history, I have come to a dead end. Perhaps
you may have info that will be of help. My great, great Grandfather was
William Carmack (wife Sarah) of Henry Co. Tn. I have them there in 1830,
aged 45 and 39. Also in the household was a John, 60+. Both were born in
N. Carolina. I have a William and wife in the 1820 Lenoir Co. NC census
both of the right age group to belong to me. The only other info I have
on Carmacks in NC are from the 1790 NC census index. John, Joab, Solomon
and William each had one male under 16 in the household. My William
would have been 5 years old. Do you have any information on the
Carmacks listed above. or any other info that you think may be helpful?
Thanking you in advance,

There are at least three Evan Carmacks, maybe more. This one, Evan of
Washington County who married Lydia Kaylor, is in my direct line. So, I
have checked it out fairly well. I have verified the marriage:
In Washington Co., VA Marriages; 1776-1855; abs. by Hiatt & Scott,
note that his name is spelled diff:
Carmack, Ewan & Lydia Kaylor, 16 May 1818 minister Jeriel Dodge
I have only one descendant (of many I think), who is of course also in my
line. Elizabeth Carmack (6/11/1882 - 6/30/1887) married John Young in Va.
Evan and Lydia moved to Missouri shortly after the marriage. Lydia's
parents were Daniel Kaylor and Elizabeth Weeks. I have Evan as b. 1796,
descended from William Carmack and Eliz. Walker.

Der Tony:
Thank you for writing to me about the Carmack site. I am new on the
Inernet and have been doing genealogy for some years now. Isn't the Carmack
family wonderful to research. I'm also researching my Caywood grandfather's
family as well as my father, Stephens families. They are very difficult as
there
are not as many footsteps to walk in.
Please let me know about the CARMACK site and how to find it and
subscribe
to it. I didn't know it existed. I would appreciate it.
My Carmack line comes from Cornelius, William, Cornelius, Cornelius, John
Wesley, John Wilson and my grandmother Laura Ann Carmack Caywood. John
Wesley's and family came from Tennessee, Illinois, Iowa, into Texas in 1846
and
they settled in Fannin County and then Erath County at Stephenville, TX. His
log
cabin is in the park in Stephenville. They found it on the banks of the
Bosque
Creek and disassembled it and reassembled it in the park. It is wonderful. I
get
good vibes when I've gone to it. Where do you live? I've gone to Tennessee
and
visited Cornelius grave and saw his Rev. War monument. Too bad the cemetery
is in the middle of a dumping ground. It has a chain link fence but it is
very
grown up with brambles and trees are in it now. Have you seen it or do you
live in Tennessee now?
Again, thanks so much for your E-Mail, let's keep in touch.
Regards, Doreen

I bet you thought I was going to use a genealogy tagline!
I agree with you about the errors; many of them are from the census
themselves. My grandmother had two "old maid" sisters. The only time their
ages were listed correctly were in the census before they were 30. After
that with each census they knocked two or three years off their ages! :)
(Incidentally, my grandmother always lied about her age too!)

Subject: Carmack wives from TN.
Three children on the family of Lewis Carmack and wife Rebecca, married
three of my family lines.
Susan Carmack to John M. Payne
Charles C. Carmack to Mary/Polly Payne
L. William ? Carmack to Amanda Halteman
Would any of you be willing to let me know what happened to the 3???
I knew about the Susan and John Mulkey Payne, and the Mary who married
Charles. But the notice of Amanda Halteman was a surprise!
Do you have certain ones of those lines researching? Sure would like to
identify Amandas parents,I have about 3 Amandas.
Thanks for any help anyone can give or just clues!

Hello Cousin's & fellow Researcher's.
By now some of you may have stared receiving your copy of the book. If you
have'nt received it yet then you should start receiving them next week. Dr
Peckham sent them out TuesdayDec2 Bulk Rate. I am one of the lucky ones who
live 15 miles from him. I went over tuesday nite and picked up my 2 copies.
How could someone be so Lucky???
The reason for this posting is to let everyone know that if you see things
in the book you know are in error please list the page # & the error. Please
prove the error by County Records, census, marriage, death records etc.
There is a lot of missing Info in the Book. If you know the missing & can
prove it please post it for all of us to add to our books.
I will give you a example of 1 error I can prove right now, I will post
others after everyone has had there books a few weeks.
Page 196 John 7 Carmack was born 1827 Va My proof is 1850 Owsley Co
Census. His children are 1 son & 1 Dau Mary and Polly are the same person. My
proof for this is 1850-1860 Owsley Co Census.
Dr Peckham tried his best but if error was sent to him then error got
printed. He has made mention to me of a pamlet at a latter date to help
straighten out the book.
I would like to close this mail with a little food for thought. He who does
nothing makes no mistakes.
I don't know how many of you have looked at the census but I can tell you
the ones in Ky are differant with each 10 year census. I seen 1 Granpaw born
in Va ,10 years latter it says born in Va. then 10 years latter it says born
in Ky. Im not going to bore you all to death with things I have ran into with
my research into Eastern Ky. I would like to say when you are given family
research Try to prove it to be Fact sometime in your life.a/c we need to clear
the error's out of our files.
Best
Regard
Cousin
Tony
Will post & prove more error's in a few weeks
