Hello all,
I have just recently begun tracing my grandmother's line. She was
Lottie Belle Carlyle (Coil) who married Carson Coil.
My line so far is as follows:
Lottie Belle Carlyle b. 1896 d. 1985 both in MO
Shelby Robert Carlyle b. 1863 in MO
Jeremiah "Jerry" W. Carlyle/Carlile b. about 1838 in VA
George??? b. about 1817 in VA
I have been able to trace Jeremiah back to Hampshire County Virginia in
1850 via census. But not sure if Jeremiah was either the son or perhaps
a nephew of a George Carlyle born about 1817 in Virginia. The reason I
believe Jeremiah might have not been a son of George is that in the
1850 census for Hampshire County VA he is shown at the bottom of the
list (out of birth order) along with Lemuel A. Carlile. I am basing
this on census info. i found listed at Mineral County WV website, so I
am waiting to read the actual microfilm at our library when it comes in
on loan. Also waiting for 1840 microfilm to come in.
I have read alot of Chalkley's Scotch-Irish in Virginia but haven't
been able to make the jump yet from my Jeremiah to the Carlyle/Carlile
families in early VA. My Coil/Kyle/Kile family is also listed in this
book and I have been able to trace back to 1750s in VA for the Coils,
but unfornately for that line I still haven't confirmed where they came
from before VA.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would love to share
information.
