It is interesting your aunt said Sarahs' children were Eliza, Jane and John.
Sarah Carliles sister-in-law was Eliza Carlile and two of her children
were John and Jane.

Hi Fred, Well. I don't know what to say, except I don't
think this is
my Sarah. I never found her on any census before 1860 and it said she
was born in SC. She already had Nancy 12 and Rebecca 2 both said born in
SC. I really don't know what Sarahs maiden name was, but think Broom.
We have a photo of Rebecca that say Salla Broom Carlile on the back.
Looks to me that Nancy would have been born in 1848 and Rebecca in 1858.
This is the closest I have ever come to a Sarah married to a Carlile. I
am disappointed, but who knows, it may be the right line. I don't think
I ever even thought of looking in MS. No one from there I know of.
Where the Gaillard name came in was Aunt Ellen married Theodore T.
Gaillard. She was born 1892 in NC and died in Seabrook, SC in 1858. I
recently received an obit for her stating she had a child, Henry Lee
Gaillard from Charleston, SC. I am trying to locate him now to see if
she really was his mother. We were always under the impression she had
no children.
Since 1840 didn't list wives, are you going by the 1850 census? Would be
interesting to know where your Sarah went. I always thought it strange
that Sarah was so old to have a child 2 years old and a 12 yr old. It is
possible that Mary was the dau of Sarah and mother of Rebecca and perhaps
died and Rebecca was raised by Sarah???. We always heard that "she" was
raised by her grandmother and thought that meant our grandmother Mamie.
I guess I might want to delve into this a bit farther. Did these
Carliles go back to SC or any go to NC that you know? You said Sarah was
born in SC so that could be mine. When did Jehu die? My Carliles always
changed ages too.
Now I don't know what to think so will ponder this a bit and try to get
it straight in my head. You won't get this until tomorrow anyway. It is
2:30 here in CA. Will probably have more questions tomorrow. I thank
you for this info. It is a start.
