We must have lots of Carlyles in common: I have a huge family tree of CARLYLEs, including
22 Walters ... none of them are in my line of descent, as far as I know ... I think my GG
William Carlyle 1788-1857 of Sprinkell, Dumfries was somehow related to at least one of
the Walters ... because William thought his own father Thomas Carlyle 1759-1821 was born
at Turfrigg and his son William Carlyle 1820-1903 of Eaglesfield (my great grandfather)
made a coffin for Walter Carlyle 1762-1846 of Turfrigg (spouse was Mary Edgar).
Relationship not known. Walter's children were born in "Oldhall" and
"Watstown".
My GG William Carlyle and his wife Jean Johnston and five adult children all emigrated
together to Toronto, Ontario in 1849.
This is the family of Walter who died in 1846:
.1841 Census of Dumfries: Parish: Kirkpatrick Fleming; Household: Turfrigg:
Carlyle, Walter 79 Farmer
Carlyle, Thomas 40
Carlyle, David 30 Clogmaker
Carlyle, Matthew 25 Ag. labourer
Carlyle, Ann 25
Carlyle, Mary 8
Carlyle, Robert 6
Carlyle, Walter 4
Carlyle, George 2
.Pennersaugh Burial Ground: #187 Mary Edgar spouse to Walter Carlyle in Potstown who died
4th Jul 1813 age 41 years also Robert Carlyle their son who died at Craighouse 16th May
1822 age 22 years also Walter Carlyle who died at Turfrigg 13th Aug 1846 age 84 years.
I have your Thomas Walter Carlyle and Eliza jane McConnell in my database, along with
thousands of CARLYLE "other who are not not my branch" so maybe we can share
info.
