Hi Group,
I am new to your "list" but would love to get some ideas on determining info
about my grandmother, Lucy J. Carlton. My grandfather was married three
times, with the second and third wife being sisters. On May 16, 1888, my
grandfather, Thomas Bruce Green, Sr., born August 7, 1857, married Mittie
Carlton, born October 18, 1867, and she died February 10, 1900. On December
16, 1900, Thomas Bruce Green, Sr. married Lucy J. Carlton, the younger sister
of Mittie Carlton. Both parents of these two sisters had died, and Lucy had
been living with her sister Mittie and her husband, Thomas Bruce Green.
About 1913, Thomas Bruce Green, Sr. and his third wife moved to Eustace from
Athens, Texas and started a general store with Sam Carlton, the brother of
Lucy and Mittie Carlton. Lucy died August 2, 1918 when my father, Thomas
Bruce Green, Jr. was 8 years old. She and her sister, Mittie are buried next
to my grandfather in the Athens City, Texas Cemetery.
The parents of Mittie and Lucy Carlton were Thomas Templeton Carlton, born
June 6, 1814 probably in Virginia, who was married twice. His first wife was
Francis Last Name Unknown, born about 1834, probably in Georgia. She died
about June 1878 probably in Smith County, Texas, but that is about all I know
about my great grandmother. Any help anyone could give would be greatly
appreciated!
The parents of Thomas Templeton Carlton were Archibald Carlton born about
1783 in King & Queen County, Virginia, and his wife Nancy Ann Barton, born
about 1794. Most of what I know about this family came from info about Capt.
Richard Carlton, born September 11, 1819, in Troup County, Georgia. He moved
to Rhomes Quarter in Smith County, Texas about 1851 and his obituary provided
what little info we know about the family. It is believed that the parents
of Archibald Carlton, were William and Mittie Carlton, but nothing else is
know about this couple.
Thanks very much for any help any of you might be able to provide.
Best Regards,
Tom Green
