Hi Clark and all Carlton Researchers,
Welcome to the Carlton Roots List.
We have been inactive for awhile and I sure it is because everyone is busy
doing their own research.
GREAT NEWS!! The Carlton DNA Project (Family Tree DNA in Houston) is
finally taking off. (Just in the past week) I am the Project
Administrator. The GOAL of the project was to give some basic connections
to all Carlton families who arrived in Virginia. I had been researching for
males from different Virginia lines. Finally, a volunteer whose Carlton
line is from Halifax County, Virginia has submitted his DNA and we are
eagerly awaiting the results, as they think they have a connection to the
King & Queen County Carlton Families. I do find the 37 marker test provides
the best results. As soon as I have more information I will certainly keep
anyone who is interested up to date.
Everyone, if you are interested in this project and the results, please let
me know.
Clark, I would love for you to participate in the DNA project for the
Carlton thru Daniel.
Clark, could give us some dates on your names you mentioned. Approximate
birth/death dates and where the families migrated to, etc. The migration
patterns will help us greatly. My Carlton line migrated from
Orange/Albemarle Counties in Virginia to Wilkes County, NC; then the sons
and daughters moved to Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas,
Missouri and then some into Texas.
I have a copy of an abstract for Daniel and Leonard Carlton from the
"Virginia Soldiers of 1776" book. Below is the following
"That James Nunn died intestate, leaving children who moved to North
Carolina. Copy, test Robert Pollard, Clerk.
King and Queen Co. court, July 2, 1819. Proved that Richard Nunn,
Soldier in the Rev. war died about the year 1776 or '77, that he had
brothers (names as in court order above), and one sister named Nannie, who
married Daniel Carlton and died leaving two children named Leonard and
Daniel Carlton."
The abstract continues with the Nunn Brothers and their descendants. It
could be ascertained, the families are trying to establish relationships for
a property settlement. I have not seen the original source, but I am sure
you could get a copy.
Is this your Carlton and Nunn lines?
Let us know more and how we can help.
Regards,
Ann Carlton Oppenheimer

Hi Folks.
I am the Gx5 Grandson of Leonard Carlton and his wife, Betsy Trice, via
their oldest son, Thomas Trice Carlton.
If my information is correct, I am also the Gx4 Grandson of Daniel
Carlton
and his wife Nancy Ann Daniel, via their daughter Nancy Ann Carlton
Leigh. (This is my mother's side)
My question... does anyone know if Daniel and Leonard are related.
One website has them as
brothers, sons of a William Carlton of K&Q Co. Va, but I am very
skeptical about that. The
only references I can find to a Leonard could not possibly be
referring to my Leonard.
I know that these folks all knew one another. Daniel appears as a
witness to a land sale by
Thomas Trice, among other things.
Any help would be appreciated. Also, does anyone have an update on
the DNA project. I need to do it.
Has anyone in Daniel's line done the project?
Clark
