Ann,
You can't imagine my excitement when I read this letter. The town of
Carlton, TX was named after my GGrandfather, Francis Marion Carlton, M.D.
You had to have visited the Hamilton Co Gene Center and Nancy Hengst, its
wonderful curator and founder.
One of F.M.'s sons, Benjamin Hardy Carlton was my grandfather. .
I'd love to hear more about your visit to Hamilton Co.
I tried to attach a .doc of B.H.'s autobiography but the file is too large
for rootsweb. If you wish to provide your direct e-mail address, I can
send it to you.

Subject: [CARLTON] FYI FOR 2007
Hi Carlton Researchers and Happy New Year to you all,
We are getting ready for a Roll Call next week.open your files and get
ready.....We have new members who have just recently joined and are
anxiously awaiting to ask questions and share - they haven't told me that,
but I am hoping,---------so welcome them all!!!
I have discovered new web sites we should be exploring for our "Carlton
Line" on a monthly basis, and have also set up a DNA site for those who
might be mildly interested. I am still learning the ropes of this new
technology and am not the "fastest in my age group". Advice is always
welcome. More info forthcoming.
I have done some traveling and kept the Carlton surname FIRST - utmost in
my research. One trip which comes to mind, I traveled to a place in
Texas
and did a digital camera copy of a newspaper article about the wife
of a
Carlton whose husband came to Texas settled in small village which became
know as Carlton, TX. ---AND of course, I want to share with all of
you----. Where was the article ---- in an old scrapbook- in the obscure
area of a museum, that the "on call duty - person" was not even aware the
scrapbook was on the premises. Isn't that genealogy? Serendipity!!!
I hope all of you have been successful in your research "finds" these past
months and will share with us - your ancestor, the research, and what
your
goals are next!!!!!
My most interesting Seminar for 2006 was attending a Gary Boyd Roberts
Seminar of the NEGHS ( New England Genealogical & Historical Society)
originally from Houston, I might add - but I don't know if I should have
mentioned that or that some Texans wouldn't claim him as he does irritates
the majority, but he does know genealogy and has the credentials to prove
it........The gentleman has a photographic memory and has an outstanding
brain catalog of all family surnames - he hinted to me - our
CARLTONS/CALTON/CARLETONS were originally from NEW ENGLAND, and within
two
generations migrated to the Southern States. Interesting thought -
when
you
think the Pilgrims landed and had to live through a 30-40 year
sub-zero
freeze......Let's hear some thoughts on this subject!!!!!
My best to all and "may the year 2007 be great for your personal quest in
advancing the memory of your ancestors!!!
ROLL CALL Feb 12, 2007
