Ann:
I have found only two mentions of religious affiliation for my Carlton's.
1) Jesse Carlton (Nathaniel 4, Edward 3, John 2, Edward 1) is stated a "one
of a group of New Ipswich residents who organized a Baptist Church", and 2)
Dean Carlton ((Nathaniel 4, Edward 3, John 2, Edward 1) is states as "one of
eight original members of the Congregational Church of Acworth (N.H.)".
There is no mention in the earlier generations of any religious
affiliations.
These qutes are from the book listed below. Helena put copies in some of
the libraries but I don't know which ones. She passed many years ago.

Marcia, thank you for the information. I would like to read the
research
below and try to find a copy.
What religion were your Carlton families? My Virginia Carltons were all
Baptists.
I have read "Albion's Seed" by David Hackett Fischer - Four British
Folkways in America. As he states, religion was a powerful
force/connector
when families immigrated together. I still refer to this book from time
to
time.

Ann:
According to Carleton-Carlton Forebears, A Genealogy of Some Descendants
of Edward Carleton, Proprietor of Rowley, Mass., 1639/1648/9, With Some
Biographical Notes, Compiled by Helena M. Goodale Hargrave 1970 , revised
in
1977.-Edward Carleton was in Rowley, Mass by Oct 20, 1639 when "a second
son was born to Edward and Ellen and named 'Edward'." "In 1639,
Edward
Carleton was one of five men chosen 'to order the affairs of the town of
Rowley, Massachusetts."
My John, s/o Edward, was born ca Jan 1637 in England. So, sometime
between
Jan 1637 and October 1639, Edward and Ellen immigrated to Massachusetts.
I would be happy to exchange information with others on any of the New
England Carleton-Carlton lines. Always looking for addition information.
My line went to Haverhill and Bradford, Mass. for many years. Then to
Tolland Co., CT., then Windsor Co., VT. (this is where I need some help on
my Asa Carlton and his wife Dorcas Perry). Then Asa's son, James Perry
born
1812 in Vermont moved to Minnesota. Any help appreciated.
