I have checked vital records for a Dexter Carlton in both Massachusetts and
Vermont with no luck. Dexter seems to be a rare name and should be a little
easier to trace. I wonder if Dexter is short for something? Like Poindexter?
I did not check that name in the Vermont vital records.

For BBeard6129(a)aol.com about the inquiryfor Dexter Carlton.
You are the 1st one I have found researching him. My gr.,gr. grandfather
was Dexter Carlton, born 27 Nov. 1811.
But I am not sure that he was born in Mass.
According to the Mich. Pioneer Historical
Society Books he was born in vermont.
He came to Mich. in 1825 with his parents.
On census from 1850 through 1870 he is said to be born in Ver., Mass.,
Ohio and N.Y.
