The follow is what I have on John Andrew Carlson. I would like to know any
other information that someone may have on this individual. Anything at all,
Where is Kingsville township, etc? Where is 32 Fargo Ave.? I have a picture
of this house. If you think I may have some information that you would like,
I would be happy to share. Below is a note that I just wrote to a fellow
Carlson buddy.
I am back. I did not find any information on whereabouts my John Andrew
Carlson may be from in Sweden. He first settled in Altoona, Pa.
Somebody, I think, typed this up from a book called 'History of Ashtabula
County', 1924. Turns out he came to the US in 1888.
In short,
Again, as of 1924-
John Andrew Carlson, who now lives in Kingsville Township, is a leading
farmer of Ashtabula County. Born in Sweden 2/15/1869, son of Carl and
Elizabeth Isaacson.
Carl Isaacson was born in Sweden, where he died in 1924. He came to this
country, but after 5 yrs, returned to his native land. Elizabeth died in
1904. John Andrew Carlson's siblings-Ed, Theodore, Louie, Anna, Hilda
(married Abbie Dickerson).
John Carlson spent his boyhood in Swdn, and educated there. 36 yrs ago, he
came to the US and settled in Altoona, Pa, where he was employed in the
mines for 4 yrs. He then came to Ashtabula Harbor (1892?) and worked the
docks for 15 yrs.(until 1907?) In 1902, he purchaed his first farm of 50
acres, which he sold in 1920. The Carlson farm is located on the South
Ridge, east of Ashtabula and is among the fine dairy farms of the community.
Mr Carlson resided in Ashtabula for a few yeras at 32 Fargo Ave. In 1924, he
moved to his present farm of 80 acres. He has owned several farms in the
county.
1/29/1892, John Carlson married Thilda Jepson, a native of Swdn. She came
to this county with her parents when she was a child. Her mother, Elsie,
also lived in Ashtabula. Her father died in 1921. Thilda Jepson died
suddenly 4/23/1923. Children-Carrie, Mabel (cashier of the Ward Banking
Company, Cleveland), Agnes (teaches school in Ashtabula), Lillie (died
1902), Edith (teaches school in Kingsville Township). (***I have class
photos of her and her students. Pretty damn neat***), Mildred (instructor in
penmanship at the Saybrook Township School), Martha H., Elizabeth (died at
age 17), Alice, Della, Arlene and Eulla Jean (**My grandmother**)
John Carlson is a Republican and a member of the Lutheran Church...
Well, besides a lot of old pictures, and letters and postcards that were
written in the 20's, which I have with me today, this about sums up my John
Andrew Carlson connection. He and his life seem very interesting. I am
honored to be a part of this lineage, but since all he had was daughters,
there is not anyone that I know of that I can connect with. What do you
think? Any connections out there?
Thanks.
