I was told as a girl that my paternal grandfather, Robert Carlson, was adopted. From what
I understand, he remained with his mother, Gladys, but the story seems to be that he was
born out of wedlock and adopted by a man Gladys married later who MAY have been a
Carlson.
I've heard that he was born an Addams (or Adams) but I don't know if that was
Gladys's maiden name, Robert's birth father's surname, or something else. I
suppose it's also possible that he was simply born before his biological parents
married, but that's not the implication I got.
I have only very sporadic contact with my father and he doesn't recall any information
beyond what I'm presenting here. I have not spoken to anyone on his side of the
family since I was a toddler so I'm flying a little blind here.
I know that my father, Wade, and all of his siblings were born in Vermont and he is the
youngest of five. I know that my paternal grandmother's maiden name was Rose LeBlanc,
but I don't know where the marriage took place or when- my oldest aunt was born in
1953. I don't know where my grandfather was born or the year (18 JUL), but I believe
I've found an SSDI entry for Gladys that, if correct, states that her SSN was issued
in Florida and she was born in 1910. She died a Carlson, so she was either born one or
never remarried.
I really hope someone out there might have been charting a Carlson branch that was in
Vermont at some point and can shed a little more light on the situation.
