WAPELLO, Iowa - Kathryn Lena Carlson, 98, formerly of Fort Dodge, died Thursday night,
Jan. 3, 2002, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center at Wapello where she had resided
the last several years.
A committal service will be held at the Northlawn Cemetery at Fort Dodge, officiated by
the Rev. Arnold Plater. The Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello is providing the care
and arrangements.
A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Keck Memorial Library at
Wapello.
She was born Dec. 27, 1903, at Lake View, the daughter of John Peter and Hannah Marie
Knudson Anderson. The family later moved to Hancock, Minn. On Oct. 23, 1923, she married
A. Leroy Carlson in Fort Dodge, where she lived until January 1995 when she moved to the
Wapello Nursing and Care Center.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church at Fort Dodge, the Maccabbee Lodge, a 20-year
member of the Iowa Bowling Association, Womens International Bowling Association, served
as City Secretary for the Fort Dodge Bowling League for many years and was a member of the
Fort Dodge Bowling Hall of Fame. She an an avid card player, enjoyed reading and was very
talented with various crafts.
Survivors include two grandchildren and spouses, Gary and Sheryl Carlson of Bettendorf,
and Sharon and Mike Duytschaver of West Liberty; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher
Carlson of Kansas City, Kan., Shay Carlson of Iowa City, Jeffery Duytschaver of Iowa City,
Kathryn Duytschaver of West Liberty, Sarah Neal of Davenport, Ann Godley of Singapore and
Bradley Wetzel of Des Moines; a daughter-in-law, Rose M. Carlson of Wapello; two
great-great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979; her son, Gerald, in 1983; her parents;
one sister; and nine brothers.
