LLINOIS CITY, Ill. -- J. Albert 'Al' Carlson, 84, Illinois City, died Tuesday,
Oct. 5, 2004, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine.
Burial will be at Drury-Reynolds Cemetery, Drury Township, Ill. Memorials may be made to
St. Patrick's Catholic Church or to the Drury-Reynolds Cemetery.
Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, Ill., is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born Feb. 26, 1920, in rural Geneseo, Ill., the son of John A. and Hilma Nelson
Carlson. He married Jeanette Hamerlinck June 5, 1941, in Milan. She preceded him in death
Dec. 8, 2003.
He and his wife farmed all their married lives, first in the Milan area and then, for the
last 48 years, in Illinois City.
He loved Holstein cattle and Duroc hogs. Later, he started his own business of
Carlson's Duroc's. He also served many years as the secretary for the former
Mississippi Valley Milk Producers Association, and was, for most of his life, an avid coon
hunter.
Survivors include a daughter, Pat Becker and husband Dave of Rockford, Ill.; a son, Tom
Carlson and wife Kay of Illinois City; grandchildren, Kris Williams, Kelly Muncie, Scott
Carlson and Beau Carlson; five great-grandchildren; and a sister Darlene Nice of Milan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a brother and three grandsons.
