I am at a standstill on my some of my ancestors, especially my great,
great-grandmother, Anna Maria Carlsson, born in Gotland, Sweden on May 22, 1823.
(Father - Eric Gustaf Carlsson, born September 3, 1799 in Kalmar Lan, Sweden and
Mother - Sara Christina Marin, born October 23, 1794 in Kalmar Lan, Sweden.)
Anna Maria Carlsson had 4 boys (out of wedlock) (see below), but in 1865
married Lars Emanuel Carlqvist (Karlqvist). The 2 of them moved to the US in
1894. According to the Emmigrant CD, Anna & Lars were headed to Washington, DC.
I have had research done in DC and have found no sign of them ever living in
DC or anywhere else in the US.
Sons of Anna Maria Carlsson:
1. Carl Ludvig Carlsson (later changed his last name to Wiman and moved to
the US), born January 11, 1850 in Gotland. He is my great grandfather, who
lived in Bonne Terre, MO. He married Maria Christina Elizabeth Gardelius, born
July 28, 1851 in Gotland.
2. Johan Petter Karlsson, born July 28, 1852 in Gotland - married Kajsa
(Catarina) Lisa
(Elisabet) Wallander (Vallander), born September 17, 1847 in Gotland. In
1884, they
went to the USA but returned to Sweden in 1890.
They had 3 children:
a. Alma Johanna Elisabet (Carlsdotter) Karlsson, born September 26,
1876 in
Gotland. She married Julius Olofsson and they had a daughter Anna
Johanna
Elisabeth Olofsson, born July 21, 1897 in Gotland.
b. Hilma Anna Katarina Carlsson, born October 26, 1878 in Gotland. She
married
Anton "August" Jakobsson in 1905. They had 3 children - Margit
Julia
Jakobsson, born February 16, 1907, Johan Konrad Jakobsson, born
August 4,
1909 and Inge-Lisa Petterson, born May 21, 1929, who married Rune
Karlsson.
c. Arthur Karl Johan Karlsson, born July 21, 1883 in Gotland. He
married Hilma
Nilsson, born August 26, 1888 in Gotland. They had a daughter,
Tekla Klara
Johanna Carlsson born August 01, 1912. She married Lennart Wiman.
3. Carl Oscar Carlsson (Karlqvist), born September 28, 1855 in Gotland. I
know where he moved around on Gotland, until 1876, but the census records from
KÄLLUNGE PARISH on Gotland, was lost in a fire in the 1940's, so following
him after 1876, has been difficult. I am not even sure who he married or if he
had any children.
4. Lars Ferdinand Carlsson, born February 12, 1861 in Gotland. He left for
the US on August 12, 1881 - not sure if where he went or if he ever returned
to Sweden. I don't know if he married or if he had any children.
I would appreciate any help I can get on this family.
Thank you & Happy Holidays!
Jan (Weiman) Scott
