Children of Carl Oscar Carlson, b. 1883 in Finland
I am looking for information about the children of Carl Oscar Carlson and Anna Lisa Stål
Carlson, two Finnish immigrants who died while their children were young. The children
were placed in children’s homes in Connecticut.
Two sisters from Finland have been searching for these children - their second cousins
-for many years. The children’s father, Karl Oskar Thomasfolk, was born in Närpes, Finland
on 18 October 1883 and immigrated to the US in 1902, after which he changed his name to
Carl Oscar Carlson.
He married Anna Lisa Stål (born in December 1879 in Finland; immigrated to the USA in
1902) in 1907, presumably in Connecticut. Anna Lisa died in New Haven, Connecticut on 2
September 1912. She is buried in East Lawn Cemetery in East Haven. Her obituary notes that
they had two children. When Carl Oscar died in 1918, someone in the USA asked the Finnish
relatives to take the children. The Finnish relatives never heard anything further about
the children, and have asked me to attempt to locate information about them and/or their
descendants.
I found the CARL OSCAR CARLSON family in the 1910 census for New Haven County,
Connecticut:
Oscar (head of household) age 26 born Fin Swedish occup machinist?
Anna (wife) age? born Fin Swedish
Ernest (child, age 1, I believe) born Conn
Violet (child, age 3, I believe) born Conn
Living with them:
Otto Carlson (brother) age 21?
William Anderson (boarder) age 26
Both children were found in the 1920 Census:
•Ernest Carlson 11 yrs, b. Ct. in New Britain, Ct. on State Street in the Children’s
Home.
•Violet is in the Children Home for girls, New Britain, Ct.
Hopefully, someone has additional information about these children or their families. I
appreciate any information or suggestions.
