Hi -
I found 3 Elias Carlsson/Karlsson on the Emibas CD who were born in the 1860s and
emigrated in the 1890s. Only this one came from Småland:
Post 338773
Carlsson, Elias
Bondson (unmarried man)
b. 4/5/1868 in Långasjö, Kalmar län (Småland)
Emigrated 4/29/1892
from Plaggebo Södergård, Långasjö, Kalmar län (Småland)
to Nordamerika
Source: Household Examination Roll, p. 84
Emibas migration file ID: Långasjö H 1892 017
The name is not uncommon, however, so you will need to do some more research in U.S.
records to see if this is the right person or not.
I tried to find more information about him on the PLF CD-3, but the records from Långasjö
there end around 1830. However, this appears to be his family on the 1880 Swedish
"census" CD:
Record 1880-7-6-481
Elias
b. 1868 in Långasjö (Kronobergs län, Småland)
s.
Man, single, child
Plaggebo
Långasjö (Kronobergs län, Småland)
Place of birth (in the database): Långasjö Kalmar län
Petersson, Carl 1831 Father
Larsdotter, Christina 1835 Mother
(Barn), Caisa Maria 1858 Child
(Barn), Peter Magnus 1860 Child
(Barn), Matilda 1864 Child
(Barn), Johan August 1866 Child
(Barn), Elias 1868 Child
(Barn), Otto Ernst 1873 Child
(Barn), Emma Sofia 1877 Child
His father and all of the children are listed as born in Långasjö, but his mother was
shown as born in Vissefjärda, Kalmar län. I'm not sure why the 1880 CD has Långasjö
listed in Kronobergs län on these records, but there may have been a border change at some
point.
I also found him on the Emihamn database on the Emigranten Populär CD:
Efternamn: CARLSSON
Förnamn: ELIAS
Ålder: 24 Kön: M
Född: 1867/1868
Församling: LÅNGASJÖ Län: G
Titel/Anm: BOND-S
Utresehamn: MALMÖ
Utvandrdag: 1892 05 05
Destination: HELENA MT
Medåkande: NEJ
Källkod: 1892:2200:5880
The destination seems to fit with what you have, so I think he's a pretty good
possibility.
Hope this helps -
Mark Johnson
